Position Overview:

The Vice President of Public Affairs is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive public relations and government relations strategies to help build greater external stakeholder awareness, understanding and support for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. S/he uses traditional and social media channels, public speaking forums and direct stakeholder engagement strategies to reach and influence targeted stakeholders. The VP of Public Affairs leverages his/her knowledge of current events, emerging trends and issues, the political environment, as well as Bank strategies, products and activities to identify opportunities to bolster the Fed's reputation, while also striving to mitigate potential reputational threats. The VP of Public Affairs collaborates with his/her communications colleagues and other Bank leaders to help ensure consistency of messaging and stakeholder engagement strategies, and works closely with the SVP of Communications & Community Engagement to coordinate districtwide public relations and government relations efforts with those of the Federal Reserve System.

Reports to: Senior Vice President of Communications & Community Engagement

Key Responsibilities:

* Develops and implements comprehensive public relations and government relations strategies to help the Bank achieve its mission and business goals.

* Raises awareness and understanding of reputational opportunities and risks among senior managers and business leaders. Acts as an internal champion for Bank reputation management, periodically briefing executive leaders on trends and opportunities to bolster the Bank's reputation.

* Leads integrated, multi-media campaigns employing both traditional and new/social media channels to reach and influence targeted stakeholders.

* Cultivates strong relationships with key journalists and editors throughout the district, as well as at top-tier newspapers and wire services nationally to increase their understanding of the Bank's mission, purposes and functions and promote the Twelfth District President's monetary policy perspectives.

* Serves as the Bank's spokesperson on topics of interest to the news media.

* Develops and oversees outreach strategies targeting elected officials, policymakers and key advisors throughout the district to help deepen their knowledge and support of the Fed.

* Positions Bank executives as thought leaders in their areas of professional expertise.

* Coaches and prepares Bank senior leaders to serve as effective media spokespersons, community ambassadors and government relations liaisons as needed.

* Works closely with the division executive to identify and secure the optimum public speaking venues across the country for the Bank president and other senior leaders to engage audiences, deliver key messages and address stakeholder feedback, questions and concerns.

* Leads efforts to build online communities, capture and engage audiences, coordinates campaigns and targets online outreach efforts to key stakeholders.

* Stays abreast of new social media tools and applications to help expand the Bank's online presence and deepen stakeholder engagement.

* Develops tools, processes, metrics and key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the Bank's reputation management activities and continually refine and improve external stakeholder engagement strategies.

Professional Requirements:

* 15 years of experience in corporate, agency or public sector public relations management

* A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field of study

* Advanced degree in communication or business desirable
