This position is located in the the Plant Engineering Division, United States Mint. The position involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for a variety of complex integrated heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, i.e., water coolers, cooling towers, refrigerators, and ventilation equipment, which are critical to the continued operation of production and administrative functions.

As a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, you will:

* Install, maintain, modifiy and troubleshoot malfunctions for a variety of complex integrated heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and repair, overhaul, and replace parts and components for those systems (i.e., motors, chillers, exhaust and intake fans, valves, refrigerant dryers, compressors, receivers, condensing units, pumps, cooling towers, chemical feeders, air handling units, unit heaters, steam traps, filters, cooling and heating coils, motor control centers, dampers, diffuses and controls, flow switches, computerized management systems, pressure sensors, indicators and gauges, temperature sensors).

* Balance and make adjustments to complex, integrated HVAC systems to meet climate controlled conditions in production, administrative offices, laboratory, and maintenance areas by changing and monitor settings on computers, valves, heating and cooling dampers and motors.

* Install, maintain and troubleshoot water coolers, refrigerators, ventilation equipment, and air conditioners, and repairs, overhauls, and replaces parts, components, and controls for same.

* Test for refrigerant and coolant leaks, evacuate and clean systems, and recharge refrigerant systems using chemical dryers, evacuation and vacuum pumps, and other equipment as required. Restore systems to proper and/or normal operating conditions. Operate refrigerant recovery unit.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - 2 days per year.

Physical Requirements:

The incumbent works on ladders, platforms, and hard-to-reach places requiring standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward and uncomfortable positions. Lifts tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and frequently lifts in excess of 50 pounds with the assistance of hoist, cranes, etc.
