Junior Inspector Receiving

Shift: ALL

Security Clearance: No Clearance


This position was created to establish a job classification for candidates who currently do not have all of the required skills and experience to hire as a Receiving Inspector. Position requires a fast learner with the potential to learn mechanical and electrical material and identify issues of non-conformance. Performs inspection to verify conformance to industry standards, specifications, drawings, and purchase order requirements. Excellent communication skills are required.


Reports to Supervisor of Warehouse or designee. Communicates with internal contacts in Engineering, Purchasing, QA, and Production. Communicates externally with manufacturers, suppliers, and customers. Generally works independently, but must exhibit team play and be flexible with work sharing and vacation scheduling to maintain continuous inspection coverage without impeding receiving throughput.


* Ensures material is correct, properly identified and labeled as per packing lists, specifications, document results of inspections and measurements.

* Initiate communications as needed. Help prepare MPRs and other reports on material quality, and workmanship

* Assist in researching Purchase Specifications, regulatory requirements, manufacturing standards, manuals, drawings, certifications, as required to perform inspections

* Participates in process improvements

* Other duties as assigned by supervision or other Receiving Inspectors


* High school graduate and/or some equivalent inspection experience

* General knowledge and/or indirect, specific training, and the ability to learn and understand technical basics in the following areas:

* Mechanical.

* Electrical

* Machinery

* Piping Systems

* Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

* Paint coatings.

* Metals, castings, forgings, and welding.

* Some working knowledge ASTM, ABS, CG, Mil-Specs, DIN, Euro-Specs as pertains to shipbuilding.

* Able to research, read, learn, and interpret plans, drawings, publications, and other documents pertaining to material inspection.

* Able to learn, use and understand common inspection tools, and measuring instruments.

* Must be a solid team player, willing to learn from fellow employees in the Rec/Insp field

* Must be computer literate. Posse's common PC MS office, email, and digital photo skills.


* Able to lift 50 lbs.

* Able to climb ladders, operate Order Pickers and work in warehouse, outdoor, and shipboard environments.

* Good eyesight and hearing.

* Able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, while examining material and equipment.


* "Performs inspection functions in accordance with department and company level ISO 9001 and 14000 procedures and work instructions.

* Accountable for the quality, accuracy, and thoroughness of inspection/documentation

* Accountable for performing duties in accordance with NASSCO safety and environmental policies and procedures.

* Accountable for participating with other warehouse personnel to achieve throughout and performance goals.
