Who We Are:

The Space Instrumentation Group is composed of mechanical engineers and technicians within the Space Science and Engineering Division at SwRI. The Space Instrumentation Group is responsible for the development of spacecraft instrumentation, avionics and electronics for both government and industry.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Support SwRI's Space Science and Engineering Division engineers and technicians with day to day project work and lab maintenance.
  • Local Year Round Internship for a Local Student

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Support SwRI's Space Science and Engineering Division via design and mechanical hardware assembly.
  • Work side by side with engineers designing, analyzing, testing, and assembling mechanical hardware.
  • Assist engineering staff in researching manufacturing techniques, material sources, hardware suppliers, and process improvements for new mechanical designs.
  • Assist engineering staff in coordinating manufacturing activities.
  • Assist lab managers in performing cleanroom and lab maintenance activities.

Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors degree with a 3.00 GPA in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts from class programming and/or simulation tools
  • programming and/or simulation tools from academic classes such as Labview or related
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required

Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
