Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to assist Generations Federal Credit

Union to live out its Mission, Do the Right Thing, by providing remarkable

service to both external and internal members. Responsible for various

accounting activities and providing assistance to the Finance staff, while

engaging in the accurate and timely posting of journal entries to general

ledgers accounts and subsidiary ledgers, including the completion of assigned

Balance Sheet account reconciliations. Also assists the Controller in timely and

accurate end-of-month close process and preparation of financial reports.

Primary Duties

Responsible for various activities and providing assistance to Finance

staff, engaging in the accurate and timely posting of journal entries to the

general ledger accounts, subsidiary ledgers, and assigned Balance Sheet account

reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner .

Assists the Controller with the month-end close process and preparation of

monthly financial statements.

Works with the Controller and Finance staff to maintain accounting systems

and procedures and assist in other activities to Include, but not limited to:

Daily review of various Symitar morning reports, general ledger accounts,

clearing accounts and exception reports for prior day posting errors and

exceptions to include review of ARCU account balances

Assists other credit union staff with correct posting of transactions on

general ledger accounts including clearing accounts and over/short transactions.

Assists Controller with maintaining general ledger chart of accounts to

include adding, deleting or revising existing general ledger accounts as deemed

appropriate.

Prepares the annual National Association of Credit Union Chairmen (NACUC)

Basic information survey.

Acts as one of the administrators for systems to include Symitar general

ledger, Federal Reserve Bank, and Catalyst Corporate FCU.

Prepares the daily Loan & Deposit Account reconciliations and ensures all

discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely and accurate manner.

Prepares monthly reconciliations of Balance Sheet general ledger accounts

and resolves discrepancies in a timely and accurate manner, consulting with

other departments as deemed appropriate.

Performs the annual Escheat process (April) to include analysis of

outstanding official checks older than three years and ascertains correct

disposition of funds back to member’s accounts or escheatment to State of

Texas (June).

Reviews the Backup Withholding tracking worksheet (prepared by Staff

Accountant) and related reports on an annual basis (January) to ensure accuracy

and prepares the IRS Form 945-Annual Return of Withheld Federal Income Tax for

review by the Controller and submission by the appropriate deadline.

Prepares the quarterly NCUA Call Report in a timely and accurate manner and

ensures all supporting schedules and documentation is complete and accurate.

Reviews all Fixed Assets records annually (January) and coordinates with 3rd

party property tax consultant on necessary documentation to complete property

tax assessments in a timely manner.

Records the monthly investment account transactions to include payments,

purchases and maturities.Prepares monthly reconciliation for related accounts

and resolves all discrepancies in a timely and accurate manner.

Prepares deposit rate, loan rate and home equity rate surveys for

management.

Acts as an Administrator for the Maple Street Vendor Management software and

assists in ensuring all contracts for vendors are current and uploaded into the

portal accordingly.

Performs other departmental functions in a backup capacity for the Accounts

Payable Specialist and Staff Accountants, as needed.

Responsible for updating policies and procedures as changes to processes are

made, thereby keeping them current and accurate.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent experience.

Experience

Minimum five (5) years of experience in accounting, preferably in the financial

institution industry.

Skills

Must have the following skills and/or abilities:

Must have a thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

Experience in utilizing an automated accounting system.

Must have ability to accurately perform calculations and analyze data

variances.

Strong working knowledge of writing and updating policies and procedures.

Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Proficient with 10-key by touch.

Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

Physical/Other Requirements

Must be able to:

Stand or sit for long periods of time.

Lift 10-20 lbs.
