Job Summary

Minnesota IT Services is hiring a Data Center Specialist to plan, design, develop and implement efficient information technology systems and applications in support of core organizational functions in the Enterprise Data Centers (EDC). The incumbent will act as a technical specialist and system administrator for EDC service offerings and applications such as Avocent Systems Portal, KVM Systems Management, Avocent Power Systems Management, EBI Systems Management, BVMS Systems Management, AutoCAD Systems Management and Site Scan Systems Management.

Responsibilities to include:

Data Center Application Maintenance - Provide preventative maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting and repair services to highly technical and complex systems and applications to minimize downtime. Provide system administration for data center services, systems, applications and equipment. Provide technical guidance in analyzing and improving data center systems/servers/applications. Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, patching and system maintenance of data center systems/servers/applications; conduct product acceptance testing and product quality analysis on vendor supplied upgrades and patches;, provide system administration of center systems/servers/applications

Data Center Planning - Coordinates, evaluates, plans, and facilitates MNIT Services small to large size projects in all phases of design, construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of MNIT Services sites and facilities; conduct research on emerging products, services, applications, and standards to plan for procurement and performance improvement of data center tool sets; analyze data center systems usage and plan for growth or increases in capacity.

Data Center Service Delivery - Participate in data center service delivery, maintenance and monitoring functions as required. Perform daily site surveys and walk through's , verify environmental equipment is operational, remedy and report an issues, concerns, warning messages, unsecure locks, doors, etc. Provide 2nd Level Support and on-call support.

Data Center Operations - Monitor data center ticket queues, provide troubleshooting and problem resolution and support for equipment break/fix issues and other problems that arise. Maintain maintenance schedule and service records for high availability infrastructure.


Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of two (2) years of IT related experience developing, implementing, and maintaining data center facilities and management software

System administration experience for data center service offerings such as: Avocent Systems Portal, KVM Systems Management, Avocent Power Systems Management, EBI Systems Management, BVMS Systems Management, AutoCAD Systems Management and Site Scan Systems Management

Software and hardware troubleshooting experience

Knowledge and experience with data center components (i.e. electrical systems, generators, power supplies, cooling systems, transfer switches, etc.)

Project management experience

This position requires a driver's license for travel between agency based data centers

This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, reach, climb ladders and work in space from under the data center subfloor plenum to above the data center ceiling plenum

A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related substitutes for two years of experience, OR related Associate's substitutes for one year.
