Education and/or Experience

  1. Two years experience in operating Direct Mail equipment preferred.
  2. Continue education as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  1. Responsible for assigning work to employees.
  2. Ability to perceive and analyze problems, develop alternatives and make recommendations.
  3. Operate and maintain multiple pieces of equipment and make repairs and adjustments.
  4. Demonstrate leadership in working with Operators, Helpers and Temps.
  5. Perform sign-offs at the beginning of jobs while training operators on proper sign-off procedures.
  6. Read and understand job ticket and follow insertion sample sign-off procedure.
  7. Train operators and helpers on set up, and troubleshooting techniques to meet and exceed company goals.
  8. Oversee that routine maintenance is performed on equipment on a regular scheduled basis.
  9. Develop new ways to improve productivity and operational efficiency of Direct Mail equipment.
  10. Ability to address job related questions and concerns effectively to all internal customers as needed.
  11. Assist in ordering supplies or parts when needed.
  1. Fill in for Shift Leader in their absence as needed.
  2. Perform quality checks following the Direct Mail sign-off and continuity pull SOPs.
  1. Communicate with next shift about status of job(s) and any special instructions.
  2. Complete paperwork and use timekeeping system efficiently.
  3. Inspects Direct Mail operations to determine that they are done properly and inspects that operators are following quality standards by auditing operator continuity pulls daily.
  4. Work in other areas as needed.
  5. Maintain a clean and organized area/department.
  6. Cooperative, positive and respectful with leaders, coworkers and team.
  7. Ensure all safety policies are followed and hold a high regard for the safety of others.
  8. Participate in proper ergonomic practices.
  9. Aggressively seek self-improvement opportunities.
  10. Work overtime as needed.

  12. Participate and support continuous improvement activities.
  1. Participate in 6S/Lean manufacturing initiative.
  1. Complete other tasks as requested by Leader/Shift Leader.

Skills and/or Knowledge include the following:

  1. Thorough knowledge of postal rules, regulations and U.S. Postal systems.
  2. Knowledge of Direct Mail machine maintenance.
  3. Ability to train and coach employees.
  4. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  5. Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
  6. Extensive knowledge of production processes related to mail.
  7. Ability to work independently and to plan and organize work.
  8. Ability to perceive and analyze problems, develop alternatives and make recommendations.
  9. Good communication skills (written, verbal and listening).
  10. Strong mechanical and problem solving skills.
  11. Physical effort – refer to physical demand analysis.
