Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

* Has the knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively and efficiently disassemble, clean, troubleshoot, repair, and re-assemble molds.

* Can use all in-house machine-shop equipment to rework worn or damaged tooling and fabricate simple tooling.

* Demonstrates that molds returning from maintenance or repair will start and run productively without repeated pulls for missing or incorrectly installed tooling components or repeating the prior mold/part defects.

* Can measure complete dimensional mold-tooling stack-out (static and dynamic) to determine tooling component preloads, clearances, and fits utilizing any available prints.

* Can determine "best" methods/procedures to determine probable causes of mold/part defects, as well as corrective and preventive actions. Has excellent knowledge of typical mold functions such as hydraulic core pulls, unscrewing, three plate molds, and mechanical slides.

* Works in a steady, professional manner with little or no supervision required.

* Enthusiastic and interacts well in training new or less-skilled employees in proper mold-maintenance techniques and methodology.

* Has a sound understanding of plastics processing requirements for molds, such as venting, heating, cooling, polishing; nozzle, sprue, and runner configuration; and steel plating applications or requirements.

* Continuously seeks to improve knowledge base by attending conferences, seminars, or exhibitions concerning mold design, building, and maintenance.

* Continuously seeking improvement in the mold repair department by recommending new equipment and/or upgrades to existing equipment.

Knowledge and Ability Skills

* Computer experience

* Welding (MIG and TIG) and brazing experience

* Hot-runner experience with various styles

* Mold design or building experience

* Support the development of the departmental budget and maintain costs within budget limits.

* Plan, organize, and delegate work assignments to accommodate departmental schedules and to best utilize man-hours and equipment.

* Provide a safe work environment, ensure employees adhere to safety policies and conduct department safety meetings.

* Develop and ensure strict adherence to the preventative maintenance schedule.

* Develop departmental goals and communicate performance to goals to employees.

* Provide technical direction and assistance in support of activities performed by Tool Room personnel.

* Review mold maintenance records for accuracy and pertinence for equipment history.

* Ensure production schedule for molding department may be obtained through proper maintenance of molding tools.

* Must be able to support and lead others and perform advanced skill level training.

* Take major projects from start to finish.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

* Mold Builder Journeyman with 10 years' experience
