The incumbent serves as the front door to the department, projecting helpful and professional courtesy to customers. Performs secretarial, clerical and administrative functions in an organized and efficient manner, under the direction of leaders of the department/facility. Where patient/family contact is involved, this receptionist demonstrates knowledge, skills and behavior appropriate to the age of the population served. Performs a dual role as patient registration clerk and biller. Performs additional duties as needed to assist with patient care. Must be trained and able to function in all of these positions. This incumbent is responsible for accurately registering patients that present to the office. This individual participates in scheduling, making referrals and routine secretarial duties. This position requires documentation and maintaining records as required.

This position will be required to provide back-up for absences or heavy volume as needed in the office as appropriate depending upon their knowledge and training in the specific area. The incumbent may assist in direct patient care activities, utilizing age appropriate principles of growth and development for patients of all ages according to the practice specialty. The incumbent is responsible for researching and resolving denied claims. Follows up with accounts over 60 days and take necessary action to expedite payment and/or zero account. Performs necessary steps to obtain insurance coverage for self-pay accounts.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

* High school graduate or equivalent

* Previous medical office billing experience required

* Excellent telephone and communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

* Proficient in PC skills with the ability to use the office's systems, including (but not limited to) Microsoft Excel, Word and Mysis.
