Controls Engineer

Position Core Role:

Provide the Engineering and ES groups with electrical/controls support to maintain daily equipment run rates. Support AT New Model group with necessary equipment changes/improvements for new model launches. Support the AT Quality group with polk-a-yoke systems to ensure quality and provide countermeasure solutions for concern items. Design, assemble, install and commission turnkey automated systems for the AT department BOP projects.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

Experience with, but not limited to, programming of sequence and safety PLC's, HMI's, Motoman robots, Cognex/Keyence vision systems, servo positioning systems, VFD's, and RFID systems. Experience with multiple network platforms and various communication protocols. Experience with complete electrical and pneumatic design for automated systems. Understand SCCR calculation methods and applicable knowledge of NEC/NFPA and ANSI RIA standards. Able to perform all project aspects from electrical systems design/drawings, materials procurement, system wiring/assembly, programming and commissioning.

Daily Tasks:

Project work. Support ES with electrical and controls types of issues. Help support various AT groups to provide electrical/controls expertise.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to design electrical controls systems including power, safety and controls from concept to finished drawing package. Experience with PLC programming utilizing function block and ladder logic techniques. Ability to configure control devices (PLC's, robots, vision systems, etc.) and integrate them into complex automated systems. Understanding of various communication protocols and network layers from simple I/O up through the enterprise level. Experienced at panel and field wiring. Basic understanding of pneumatic components and circuitry.

Required Experience:

Minimum of 2 years manufacturing experience in electrical/controls field and/or 2 years experience in systems integration field.

Education Requirements:

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or 6 years equivalent experience
