Responsibilities

Is responsible for maintaining communication networks related to patient care activities, and processing patient care information of pediatric through geriatric stage patients on the nursing unit. Accountability includes preparation, transcription and recording of information and materials for patient care and for the medical records of patients assigned to the unit. The PSA communicates with patients, families, visitors, and staff. Responsible for prompt and cheerful assistance to all individuals seeking information, facilitating communication both intra and inter-departmental. Accuracy, completeness and timeliness, as well as confidentiality are expected.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED

Required Minimum Experience: Previous clerical or related experience (preferably in a hospital setting). Certification and experience in reading, interpreting, and writing medical terminology is desired.

Required Minimum Skills: Computer skills. Has the ability to anticipate informational needs and organize/prioritize data, and ability to work with limited supervision. Good interpersonal communication and customer service skills.

Must be able to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced work environment.
