Our Rolling Meadows division is looking for a bright, ambitious Machine Builder to assemble, debug and install entire machines and/or systems in a timely manner and meet customer requirements.

This is a second shift position that may move to first shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Organize, plan and execute all phases of machine construction.

* Assemble all aspects of a machine or multi-system from drawings and/or verbal instructions.

* Provide direction to assistants.

* Fabricate critical machine components as required.

* Interface with electrical personnel concerning electrical and programming issues.

* Use knowledge of pneumatic functions, devices and fittings, to achieve desired results.

* Adjust cam timing, rotary positions (i.e. indexing units) as necessary.

* Use knowledge of OSHA requirements for machine safety devices and guards.

* Perform machine parts and assembly modifications as required, interfacing with engineering when changes are major or of a critical nature.

* Record changes to machine parts and assemblies on engineering drawings.

* Debug entire machine, with engineering, as necessary.

* Perform in-house acceptance run-off.

* Interface with customer when necessary.

* Install and service machines at customer's site as required.

* Train customer's personnel on machine operations and maintenance.

* Provide information for machine technical documentation.

* Maintain a safe working environment and follow safe working practices.

* Keep work area clean.

* Maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly fashion.

* Follow work instructions and maintain checklists.

* Maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives.

* Recommend improvements in order to facilitate company growth.

* Maintain ISO13485 Certification Requirements.

* Other duties as assigned.

Mentorship Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership and existing knowledge to new or existing Machine Builders in a professional manner

* Provide informal transmission of knowledge through communication by suggestion and hands on training.

* Provide feedback to Senior Management on mentoring process.

* Mentor new or existing employees based on Management's recommendation.

(Health, Safety, & Environmental):

* Work in compliance with divisional Health, Safety, and Environmental Procedures.

* Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through Lockout-Tagout methods.

* Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.

* Report any defect in any equipment or protective device.

* Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned task.

* Attend all required Health, Safety, and Environmental training.

* Report any accidents/incidents, including near misses to your supervisor.

* Assist in investigating any accidents/incidents or near misses if requested.

* Refrain from engaging in any unruly conduct.

* Ensure that equipment, materials and protective devices are functioning in a safe manner.

* Ensure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety procedures.

* Applies progressive discipline as appropriate for health, safety and/or environmental violations.

* Advise employees of the existence of any potential or actual health and safety risks.

* Provide appropriate instruction for safe work.

* Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees.

* Conduct periodic inspections and audits in accordance with legislative and/or corporate requirements.

* Conduct accident/incident investigations, prepare necessary reports and communicate to line management, health and safety personnel and health and safety committee.

* Ensure that all employees, including temporary workers and contractors, adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment.

* Support activities and initiatives outlined by the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

* High school diploma or equivalency.

Experience:

* Five years minimum experience in machine building.

* Journeyman tool maker or equivalent skills.

* Strong mechanical aptitude.

* Good interpersonal skills.

EQUIPMENT:

Must be knowledgeable in the proper use and selection of tools and equipment.

Examples:

Inspection and measurement tools such as vernier, caliper, and scales, etc.

Hand tools such as a variety of wrenches, pliers, saws, power drills, etc.

Machinery such as milling machine, surface grinders, lathe, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.

* Exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 25 pounds of force frequently.

* Visual Acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.

* Hearing Ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.

* Working Conditions – The employee is subject to exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when working on the manufacturing floor.
