Software Designer

Alstom Signaling has an opening for a temporary software designer within our Alstom Digital Mobility organization at our Rochester, NY location. As a software designer, you will design and implement software associated with new and modified products and systems, in response to project-related contracts or R&D activities, while achieving quality, cost and delivery objectives. You will also:

* Design and develop real-time embedded software modules using SysML and C/C++

* Review customer specifications and generate input to technical proposals and cost estimates as requested

* Support the system specification and architecture in collaboration with the product designers

* Create high level software architecture and detailed software module design documents supporting new product development

* Prepare and perform software module tests and verification of deliverables

* Ensure the software work product is under proper configuration management according to the configuration management plan

* Support the software and hardware integration testing

* Investigate and troubleshoot system and software issues identified within existing products

* Work effectively within a cross-functional team; maintain open communication with team members including software architect, hardware designer, RAMS and Validation and Verification (V&V), technical writing and training departments throughout the software life cycle

* Apply processes and standards consistently and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities

Required Qualifications:

* Technical BS degree in related major for functional area (i.e. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering)

* 2+ years of experience developing embedded software using C/C++

* Experience developing real time embedded systems

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to meet deliverables on time while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced matrix environment

Preferred Experience:

* Experience developing embedded software for the Linux OS

* Experience capturing software requirements and design within formal documentation

* Experience with Digital Signal Processing

* Experience developing Windows applications using C# or C++

* Experience developing software to communicate over Ethernet using UDP, TCP/IP, GSOAP, or TRDP

* Experience designing, developing, integrating and simulating applications using FPGAs

* Experience developing a Linux BSP

* Experience with the use of Emulators, and other hardware/software debugging tools

* Signaling industry-specific experience a plus

* Understanding of railway industry standards and terminology
