The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation has an immediate need to fill the seasonal/intermittent position listed below:

Under the direction of the Team Manager, the Swim Coach will provide assistance with administering the policies and procedures of the PGPR Sharks Swim Team, a USA Swimming Team, provide instruction on competitive swimming techniques for a competitive swim program and prepare participants for swimming competition by implementing appropriate training for the age group. The individual's experience should illustrate exceptional communication and motivational skills, team building and community involvement. The candidate should be able to provide relevant examples of quality teaching techniques. Schedule is subject to change throughout the year based on number of participants, coach's experience and availability. Opportunities for additional employment may be available through swim lessons and summer swim team league.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT DUTIES:

Prepare workout plans as required for the level/group

Teach competitive swimming techniques

Work with the other swim coaches in preparing swim meet entries, organizing and attending all swim meets

Assist with preparation of facility to carry out practices and competition

Assist with athlete supervision during swimming competition

Work with team manager to promote, develop and grow team

Encourage the parents' involvement and coordinate their assistance

Communicate with the Team Manager on all matters of policy

Minimum Qualifications:Current CPR, First Aid, and Safety Training for Swimming Coaches certifications are required upon hire or 30 days after.

Passing the USA Swimming background check and Child Protection course, as well as a mandatory Commission's background check..

Preferred Required Training/Certification

Current certified Lifeguard

Current certified Water Safety Instructor

ASCA level 2 or higher certification preferred

Experience

4 years of competitive swimming experience at club or high school level is preferred

2 years of teaching American Red Cross Learn To Swim levels 4,5, and 6

3 years of coaching a competitive swim team

Experience with Hy-Tek Team Manager and Meet Manager
