Operations Team Leader

More than 8 million citizens rely on more than $22.3 billion of revenue the Virginia Department of Taxation collects to fund government services that affect their daily lives. Virginia Tax, headquartered in Richmond, is responsible for administering 37 state and local taxes, sales and use taxes, and miscellaneous excise taxes with integrity, efficiency, and consistency. Virginia Tax works directly with individual and business taxpayers and local governments to ensure the Commonwealth's revenue is collected and taxes administered with fairness, diligence, and integrity. Virginia Tax is seeking an experienced Team Leader to oversee several operational activities and serve as team lead and subject matter expert to a staff of 20 employees. This area is responsible for paper processing of approximately 30,000 business registrations, updating addresses on approximately 100,000 pieces of undeliverable mail, indexing over 400,000 pieces of inbound correspondence and prepping paper correspondence for scanning. The Operations Team Leader will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily distribution of work within the assigned work units; ensuring procedures are being followed; resolving operational problems; providing guidance and development of the workforce; participating in continuous improvement to manual activities; and monitoring production volumes and staff productivity. The Team Leader will lead staff, resolve daily problems, recognize triggers to prevent backlogs from occurring, work independently and make decisions. The ideal candidate has good organization skills, is very detailed-oriented, and hands-on.

Minimum Qualifications

* Prior experience leading teams, assigning work and monitoring productivity - Experience solving production problems quickly and efficiently - Must possess strong problem solving, research and analytical skills - Ability to serve as a functional SME for the Unit activities - Experience assessing the effectiveness of current operating procedures and recommend improvements - Experience maintaining complex spreadsheets that track and project a variety of stats - Experience organizing work, handling multiple tasks, and adjusting priorities as necessary - Ability to work independently and make decisions - Experience interpreting and comprehending written instructions and guidelines - Experience coaching, mentoring, and training staff - Experience developing written procedures on how to perform work - Ability to implement quality control standards - Experience analyzing workflow issues and resolving problems and bottlenecks - Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers - Computer skills, including working knowledge of Excel, Word, and GMail - Written and verbal communication skills - Customer services skills
