The Science Museum of Virginia is the state's flagship institution for informal science learning, with a mission to "inspire Virginians to enrich their lives through science." Opened in 1977, the Museum welcomes over 400,000 annual guests, including 75,000 school-aged field trip guests, from across the Commonwealth to its historic site in Richmond. Nearing completion of a five year transformation, the Museum employs a broad range of experiences to inspire and engage guests of all ages as they explore the iconic Broad Street Station, which houses a wide range of technologically interactive exhibits, a NOAA Science On-a-Sphere, and a giant screen digital Dome theater. The Science Museum is seeking a Director of Technology and Innovation to lead the Museumâs Technology Department. Reporting to the Deputy Director and participating as a member of the Museumâs Leadership Team, the Technology Director provides inspirational leadership, vision and management to the IT department, manages technical staff in the planning, design, development, testing, installation, and maintenance of technology systems; leads changes and enhancements to business processes, policies, and technology systems; provides project oversight/management for strategic program initiatives; business optimization using new and improved technology tools and identifying emerging information technologies; serves as primary contact with outside vendors in the generation of bids and contracts; creates the Agencyâs technology plan and the Agencyâs IT plan for the Commonwealth; ensures compliance with VITA policies and procedures; manages infrastructure security, maintains the integrity and effective operation of the network, and manages security of all systems based on VITA standards.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have extensive technology team management experience, department budget management, experience developing and managing multi-year strategic goals, information security policy and procedure development, and experience with contract negotiations and management. Advanced network, server and desktop support experience; relevant management experience with Windows Server 2008 & 2012, Exchange, Windows 7 & 10, Barracuda products, MAC, Active Directory, G-Suite, SQL and MS Office suite; working knowledge of networking switches, routers, access points, firewalls, SPAM filters, anti-virus cabling and protocols; familiarity with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure); working knowledge of electronic devices and A/V equipment, and experience with independent audits (e.g. ISO). Ability to guide the team to develop creative solutions to complex problems; excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to summarize and or present complex problems and/or technical information in a simplified manner; identify process improvements, emerging technologies, evaluate the ramifications of recommendations on the department and agency and recommend appropriate solutions. Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends and Holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

B.S in a technology related field of study.
