Our IT department has positions for students who enjoy working with others and take initiative. During our 10-week Summer program HCSC will empower you with a scaled agile model, high-impact IT team, and the best technical tools that will enable you to collaborate with business partners in an exciting industry full of possibilities.
In addition to the challenging, real-world projects, you will have the opportunity to join weekly networking opportunities among interns and company leaders, professional development workshops, involvement in Business Resource Groups, and plenty of volunteer activities. Even better, internships can translate into full-time roles!
Your internship will be in one of the following areas. You will be asked to share your preferences during the application process.
IT Technical Intern
Cyber Security Intern
You will have the opportunity to assist in the review of new and/or existing business and technology initiatives; including infrastructure, application development, mobile and cloud solutions. You will also work collaboratively with various other Cyber Security teams in the design and implementation of key security tools, applications and processes.
Preferred Background: Good knowledge of technology and Cyber Security. Ability to use virtual machines, OS installation, and installation/configuration of software packages.
You will have the opportunity to use languages such as Java and enable programming tools such as Jira and Jenkins, or Agile development approaches (i.e. Extreme Programming, Feature Driven Development, Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), Scrum). You may also develop and test program code in support of HCSC's business goals, integrate tested program code into existing business application, and work closely with HCSC project managers and actively participate in project meetings.
Preferred Majors: IT Related Field
You will have the opportunity to work on practical projects that leverage current tools for building ETL/ELT pipelines that make data delivery faster and improve speed to market. These have the potential to positively impact our members' health care access and outcomes. We leverage large quantities of data to assess the effectiveness of clinical interventions, improve the efficiency of our operating processes, and identify ways to tailor our plans to better meet our members' needs.
Preferred Majors: Computer Science
Preferred Background: Experience with SQL, Hive, or other SQL-like query languages (I.e. SPARK-SQL). Familiarity with Scala, Python, Spark, Hbase, Hadoop, and/orAzure Databricks. Understanding of ETL, ETL data integration, federation, and virtualization.
User Experience Designer Intern
You will have the opportunity to plan, create, and deliver digital products, aligning the needs of the customers and our business partners across the organization from a user perspective. You will also have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively in our innovative, open concept space, working alongside diverse roles to deliver optimal digital solutions.
Preferred Majors: Marketing, Communications, User Experience, and/or Human Factors Engineering.
Preferred Background: Working knowledge of data analytics and feedback tools. Basic understanding of UX principles and HTML.
You will have the opportunity to execute various systems, integration, regression, and ad-hoc tests according to test plans; Ensure the creation of weekly testing dashboards – reports on test preparation and execution status; Raise issues and risks to testing timeline (i.e. deliverable hand off delays, environment readiness issues); Manage defect reports for issues found during testing and provide accurate testing status to project stakeholders; and Attend daily status phone calls with Test Managers to report testing statuses and issues.
Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Information Technology, STEM or related field

- What Are the Requirements You Must Meet?
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree
- Graduation date between December 2020 – June 2021
- A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Availability to work 10 weeks during the summer
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States (currently, we are not offering this program under OPT or CPT or sponsoring work visas for these roles).
