This position will function within the Chemical Sciences Unit of Corporate Preclinical Development & Toxicology (CPDT) and will participate in/support the conduct of nonclinical laboratory investigations of medical devices and materials in accordance with GLP regulations and the BD CPDT Quality System.

The incumbent will be responsible for analytical chemistry testing on medical devices and materials in a lab that performs biocompatibility and chemical testing as required by FDA for medical devices and/or therapeutics and in compliance with ISO 10993.


Conducts non-routine analytical chemistry studies utilizing HPLC/UV, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP and other instrumental methods to characterize materials, identify impurities, assay drug product formulations or complete investigations.

* Performs sample preparation, sample extraction and analyses.

* Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses.

* Operates chemical instrumentation including GC, HPLC/UPLC, ICP, IC, GC/MS, UV/VIS, LC/MS. Specialized experience in ICP preferred.

* Records raw data according to GLP documentation requirements.

* Interprets results and prepares technical reports on completed studies.

* Prepares chemical reagents and solutions needed for testing.

* Develops and validates new analytical methods.

* Maintains a safe chemical laboratory environment

* Performs other technical writing functions as requested


Education: B.S. degree in chemistry or a related field.

Experience: At least 3 years analytical chemistry work experience, preferably including work in a GLP or GMP environment.

Specialized experience in ICP/MS metals testing including work on Agilent ICP/MS Systems (7900 or 8900) with Masshunter Software is preferred.
