Lead Teacher/Family Advocate - Ida County

WANTED: Lead Teacher/Family Advocate for Ida County Preschool. Position based in Ida Grove. 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Eligible for benefits, including IPERS. Associates Degree in Early Childhood or Child Care Supervision & Management required. Bachelors Degree and preschool teaching experience preferred. Position will complete weekly home visits with families until the preschool classroom opens in August 2019. Valid drivers license, insurance and reliable transportation required. 1-800-859-2025. Requirements:

* Associates Degree in Early Childhood or Child Care Supervision & Management required.

* Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education w/Early Childhood Endorsement and preschool teaching experience preferred.

* Able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, push and pull regularly.

* Lift up to 15 pounds often; lift up to 30 pounds occasionally; lift over 30 pounds rarely.

Qualifications:

* Center based work experience with pre-school age children preferred.

* Supervisory skills preferred.

* Excellent oral and written communication.

* Excellent organizational skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Able to relate to low income families in a positive manner

* Be knowledgeable of Head Start/Early Head Start Service Plan, Procedures, and Performance Standards and Iowa Licensing Regulations

* Collaborate with the community in Ida County to ensure that the needs of the family are met and children and families receive full benefits of Head Start/Early Head Start

* Provide weekly home visits with pregnant women and children up to the age of 5

* Provide Parents as Teachers curriculum and GOLD assessments with all children enrolled in program

* Educate parents in the stages of child development as well as importance of making healthy life choices

* Plan with parents to develop safe and healthy indoor/outdoor learning experiences that encourage exploration and learning for all children

* Facilitate and plan Early Head Start group parent meetings/socializations and collaborate with Head Start Family Advocate in Ida County

* Recruit families by attending WIC clinics

* Visit assigned families weekly and involve parents in activities to enhance their role as the primary influence on their childs education and development

* Track attendance for EHS children and create smooth transitions into preschool

* Attend required trainings and meetings

* Complete reports, paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner

* Provide transportation for families and representatives to monthly parent meetings, socials, Male Involvement meetings etc. and serve as a resource in planning and conducting those meetings

* Obtain and monitor in-kind requirements

* Partner with community resources and parents in providing services to families and children where necessary

* Assist families in assessing own strengths and resources and guide them in accessing other needed resources

* Assist families in recognizing and accessing quality childcare through transitions

* Establish collaborative networks and community partnership

* Promote best dental practices to children and parents

* Collaborate with regarding safe appropriate health lessons and best dental practices

* Contribute to a positive and productive work environment

* Attend collaboration meetings with other providers in Ida County

* Attend staff meetings, training sessions and other agency events

* Other duties as assigned

Other Conditions of Employment:

* Submit to the Department of Human Services Criminal History and a Request for Child Abuse Information Records Check upon employment and every two (2) years thereafter.

* Submit to FBI National Fingerprint Criminal History Check within 30 days and every four (4) years thereafter.

* Submit to a Motor Vehicle Records check prior to employment and every year thereafter.

* Complete a Physical Exam prior to employment.

* Complete a Tuberculosis Screening or Assessment prior to employment.

* Complete mandatory reporter training within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.

* Adhere to Head Start/Early Head Start Standards of Conduct.

* Sign and maintain required confidentiality statement.

* Must have a valid class D drivers license, insurance and reliable transportation.

* Attend required in-services, trainings, orientations and meetings

* Must be able to complete job duties as described with reasonable accommodations.
