WANTED: Bilingual Family Advocate. 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Position is based out of Orange City and visits with families in Lyon & Sioux counties. Eligible for benefits, including IPERS. Associates degree in Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood or related field required. Bachelors degree preferred. Two years experience in human services, social services, adult education and/or early childhood education preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish & English required. Duties include completing home visits with Early Head Start families in Lyon & Sioux counties and facilitating monthly parent meetings/socializations. Requirements:

* Associates Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Early Childhood or related field required. Bachelors Degree preferred.

* Bilingual in Spanish and English required.

* Able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, push, and regularly.

* Lift up to 10 pounds often; lift up to 20 pounds occasionally; lift over 20 pounds rarely.

Qualifications:

* Two years experience in social services, adult education and/or early childhood education preferred.

* Able to understand written and spoken Spanish.

* Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Able to relate to low resource pregnant women, infants, toddlers and staff in a positive manner.

* Be knowledgeable of Head Start/Early Head Start Service Plan, Procedures, and Performance Standards and Iowa Licensing Regulations.

* Collaborate with staff to ensure that the needs of the family are met, and families receive full benefits of Early Head Start.

* Provide home visits in Spanish with families and children in the Toddler Center and home based families.

* Educate parents in the stages of child development as well as importance of making healthy life choices.

* Plan with parents to develop safe and healthy indoor/outdoor learning experiences that encourage exploration and learning for all children.

* Visit assigned families weekly (4 times a month) and involve parents in activities to enhance their role as the primary influence on their childs education and development.

* Recruit parent and community volunteers for assistance in all Early Head Start activities, such as field trips, policy council meetings, parent and male involvement meetings, etc. throughout the year.

* Facilitate Early Head Start Parent Group socializations.

* Attend required trainings and meetings.

* Complete reports, paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

* Provide transportation for families and representatives to monthly parent meetings, socials, Policy Council meetings, Male Involvement meetings etc. and serve as a resource in planning and conducting those meetings.

* Obtain and monitor in-kind requirements.

* Partner with community resources and parents in providing services to families and children where necessary.

* Assist families in assessing own strengths and resources and guide them in accessing other needed resources.

* Assist staff with translating phone calls and home visits with Spanish speaking parents as needed.

* Provide translating during parent meetings and policy council meetings as needed.

* Assist families in recognizing and accessing quality childcare through transitions.

* Establish collaborative networks and community partnership.

* Work with Health Coordinator to promote and instill the importance of prenatal care, good nutrition, healthcare of infant, breastfeeding, birth control, smoking cessation, parenting classes, substance abuse or other health education classes.

* Promote best dental practices to children and parents.

* Collaborate with Head Start Nurses and Early Head Start Health Specialist regarding safe appropriate health lessons.

* Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends without direct supervision.

Other Conditions of Employment:

* Submit to a FBI National Criminal History Check upon employment and every four (4) years thereafter.

* Submit to a Department of Human Services Criminal History, and a Request for Child Abuse Information records check upon employment and every two (2) years thereafter.

* Complete physical exam or provide a copy of physical exam completed within the past six month.

* Submit to TB Mantoux or TB Assessment screen.

* Complete mandatory reporter training within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.

* Maintain required confidentiality statement.

* Must have a valid drivers license, insurance and reliable transportation.
