Job Description

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications

9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

This is a leadership position in the Shock Engineering Services group for work supporting developmental submarine efforts. Efforts include analyses and design using various finite element methods and programs as well as first principles engineering and other engineering tools or methods. A variety of Shock and UNDEX analyses will be conducted, including static-G, DDAM, explicit and implicit transient, direct pressure wave, fluid-structure interaction, and others. The candidate will also oversee design and analysis efforts of a team of 4-6 engineers in a project management role along with another project lead. Work will be conducted primarily in a secure in-office environment (i.e. limited remote work options). Requirements Strong project management, leadership, technical analysis, and technical writing skills. Ability to mentor others and teach as required. Desire to grow our analysis skills and scope of work. Ability to work in a secure environment. Extensive experience in shock and/or UNDEX and related analysis tools. An understanding of shock phenomenon and the effect on shipboard structure and components. A strong working relationship with our NAVSEA customer.
