We are looking for a Biospecimen Manager to locally organize and manage phlebotomy and ensure we produce high quality samples for external laboratory testing. We need someone who can hit the ground running and take responsibility for quality, logistics and training. Further, this person will help us with strategy to expand to new locations and new capabilities. Within this role you’ll work alongside a team of Clinical Staff, doctors, scientists, hospitality experts and engineers all engaged in an ambitious goal!

Responsibilities

  • Review and update Venipuncture, vital signs collection, and biosample processing procedures as necessary
  • Review and update health and safety guidelines per regulatory requirements
  • Manage the preparation of blood, saliva, and urine samples for analysis at various laboratories
  • Identify risks to quality and create mitigations
  • Identify opportunities and develop specifications to automate and scale logistics and sample preparation including managing courier pickup and delivery
  • Develop new training materials for sample preparation procedures
  • Demonstrate excellence in sample preparation
  • Work with and help train a team of rotating Clinical Staff members
  • Ensure we have proper equipment, supplies, and workspace environment
  • Manage Inventory of supplies using database and other software tools
  • Manage assembling and preparing sample collection kits, proper labels, and packaging for shipment
  • Help ensure we are prepared for each participant that comes in for an exam
  • Develop new capabilities to process and or test samples

Qualifications

  • You have built a clinical laboratory capability at a previous employer
  • 2 years minimum CLIA-certified Laboratory experience
  • Degree of master of arts, master of science, or an equivalent or higher degree with a major in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences
  • Focus and attention to detail
  • Laboratory safety and quality assurance experience
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary team and the drive to thrive in a high-pressure, fast paced environment
  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Ability to explain complex medical terms and procedures in a manner that is easily understood by a non-medical audience
  • Ability to develop processes that are trainable and to identify automation opportunities in these processes
  • Skill at coaching and supporting; can put yourself in other people’s shoes easily and know how to make them feel cared for
  • Reliable, responsible; you’re the one people come to for problem-solving or planning something complicated

Nice to Have

  • License/Certifications: California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or similar state license, Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Clinical work experience of at least one year proficiency with venipuncture
  • Experience with robotics for fluid handling
