Associate Director, Research Informatics for Discovery Biologics & I/O Research

We seek a passionate business analyst to join our Redwood City, CA team in leveraging technology to accelerate the productivity of Biologics Discovery and Immuno-Oncology scientists. We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Business Analyst with solid business architecture, business process management, and business intelligence skills as well as a strong knowledge of Biologics Discovery and methods used in Immuno-Oncology research.

This role is accountable for managing IT technological demands, implementation of digital capabilities and evolution of strategic information systems that globally enable Discovery Biologics Research to streamline processes, particularly around data management and analysis. This role is within the Discovery IT department and will partner with Discovery Research, other internal IT service teams, outsourcing partners, and vendors to define, prioritize, plan, deliver and support strategic digital capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop strategic, collaborative, and trusted partnerships with sponsors and stakeholders across all levels of the Biologics and Immuno-Oncology research organization as well as IT partner functions. This includes scientific management, research scientists, platform architecture, software engineering, application support, and program management.

Contribute to a strategic roadmap that leverages modern, enterprise digital capabilities and approaches to create sustainable, fit-for-purpose solutions for business capabilities.

Lead business analysis efforts and due diligence to discover and understand root causes of business challenges. Work with stakeholders to identify qualitative improvements and articulate quantitative benefits of implementing solutions.

Develop solid business cases to drive value creation through alignment to business objectives and priorities, business process analysis, and information flow analysis.

Elicit and translate complex business requirements into technical artifacts including user stories, wireframes, prototypes, information flow diagrams and process maps.

Partner with IT project management, delivery teams, and scientists for delivery of solutions.

Lead the maturity of Business Analysts and guide their contributions to strategic and tactical efforts.

Define and drive change management initiatives (technological and business process)

Key Competencies:

Required

* BS Degree in Life Science; an advanced degree (MS or PhD) is preferred;

* Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry background with at least 5+ years of lab experience, post-grad.

* Information Technology background with at least 5+ years of experience in IT; roles involving business analysis, data analytics, and/or informatics.

* Development or end-user experience with various industry-standard applications such as; MS Excel/VBA, GraphPad Prism, IDBS E-Workbook/BioBook, Dotmatics, LIMS, and/or Spotfire, Vortex

* Demonstrated mastery of key business analysis skills, including business architecture, business process management, and business intelligence.

* Ability to build productive, trusted relationships with scientists at all levels and IT staff.

* Ability to translate complex and ambiguous scientific business needs into compelling business cases and rational solutions which leverage enterprise technologies.

* Strong domain expertise in the application of IT in Discovery Biologics and Immuno-Oncology Research (automation, antibody generation, protein therapeutics, translational sciences, genomics, in-vivo, immunohistochemistry, NGS, sample management) including a broad understanding of typical scientific processes and instrumentation.

* Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to organize and present ideas in a convincing and compelling manner; ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.

* Strong business acumen; broad, enterprise-wide view and understanding of strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.

* Experience in delivery (in collaboration with development team) of solutions to scientists including change management.

Ideal Candidates Would Also Have:

* Knowledge of Biologic-based therapeutics discovery and development, and Pharmaceutical and related industries. Immuno-Oncology, Oncology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, and/or Protein Engineering experience preferred.

* Knowledge of Pharmaceutical/Biotech research infrastructure and operations.

* Demonstrated ability to create and support a dynamic culture of innovation and continuous improvement in a matrix organization.

* Potential to develop into an internally and externally recognized thought-leader in Biologics IT.

* People management experience

Other Qualifications

* Familiarity/experience with one or more of the following: scripting language, scientific instrumentation (Flow Cytometers, Mass-Spectrometers, IHC, Lab Automation, etc.).

* Lean Thinking / Six Sigma educated; certified Six Sigma Belt a strong plus

* Formal Business Analysis Certification; IIBA ECBA/CCBA/CBAP Certification or PMI-PBA a strong plus
