Microsoft Purview is a cloud-native data governance solution to enable organizations of all sizes to manage and govern their on-premises, multi-cloud, and software as a service (SaaS) data. Since Microsoft Purview was brought onto the market, thousands of organizations have collectively discovered tens of billions of data assets as well as served up millions of searches every month to empower knowledge workers to find valuable enterprise data quickly and easily.

Organizations that use Microsoft Purview have a more holistic understanding of their hybrid data estate, which is always kept up to date with automated data discovery and sensitive data classification. In addition to empowering knowledge workers, this understanding, along with insights from sensitivity, business context, and relationships between data assets is also being used by teams working under the Chief Data Officers (CDO), the Chief Information and Security Officers (CIO and CISO) and the Chief Risk and Compliance Officers (CRO and CCO) to govern, protect, and manage data more effectively.

We are looking for committed Software Engineers with distributed systems experience to join us as we evolve our state-of-the-art data catalog, sharing, privacy and governance services. You will gain experience building high-scale, low-latency and reliable Azure services that deal with big-data in the cloud. You will get to work on the full stack using the latest technologies and work alongside a team of highly talented engineers. This is a great opportunity for you to help us build platform features related to data discovery, search, graphing, scanning, classification, trending and governance for the next generation of the data catalog. Below are some of the responsibilities on this role, come join us on this exciting journey to build an innovative product.

  • As a key developer on the platform team, responsible for building core services that enables fundamental features to delight our customers.
  • Empower customers to provision account, scans, explore, annotate and classify their data sets from catalog hosting millions of assets.
  • Embrace new tech and frameworks to build modern scalable and secure services that integrate with other partner Azure eco-system.
  • Work closely with product manager and designer on the requirements, leverage the inhouse/open-source components to meet the functional needs.
  • Enable telemetry to learn customer usage patterns and issues.
  • Engage with beta customers to help try the feature and gather feedback for further improvements.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or IT technical discipline or 6+ years of industry engineering experience.
  • 6+ years of programming experience in Java OR C++ OR C OR object-oriented programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.
  • Experience building and operating online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Experience creating and shipping V1 products using modern development practices.
  • Experience using agile methodologies or test-driven development (TDD).
  • Great curiosity and willingness to question.
