Under the direction of the City of Rapid City Public Works Department, the Solid Waste Division is responsible for all city and surrounding area garbage disposal, recycling collection and processing, and operation of a regional landfill facility.

Position Details

About Our Job:

The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) processes co-mingled recyclables from households and businesses, as well as processing of municipal garbage to remove organic material for processing into compost. As a Solid Waste Operator I at the MRF, this position will be responsible in providing the delivery of high quality solid waste and recycling collection services to the public. This role will interact with customers and inform them of solid waste and recycling collections guidelines as requested.

Job duties may include (but are not limited to):

* Operates solid waste equipment such as, rear loader, front end loader, fork lift skid steer, roll off truck, yard waste processing equipment such as yard waste turner and screening

* Must perform duties to standard operations and safety defined by each appropriate equipment manufacturer and industry standards; reads and interprets appropriate instruction and/or construction plans

* Performs basic maintenance and repair of equipment

* Snow removal/sanding operations

* high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

* one year related experience and/or training in manual labor, equipment operations or other skilled trade

* valid South Dakota Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 45 days from date of hire
