- Salary Grade: GN11 /Recruitment Range - $42,780 - $72,424*
This position will serve as a Transportation Supervisor II. Work performed is part of County Maintenance Operations. This position currently reports to the Franklin County Maintenance facility in Bunn, NC, however, will perform work in Wake County. This position may be subject to report to the Wake County Maintenance facility in Raleigh, NC as the needs of this unit may change. Typical duties include supervising lower level employees; scheduling, inspection and supervision of force account work; scheduling, inspection and supervision of purchase order contracts; efficient management of equipment fleet and materials; efficient management of county maintenance budget. Other duties include compliance with NCDOT policies, procedures and Standard Specifications; assumption of County Maintenance Engineer duties in his/her absence; reviewing expenditures and making adjustments to planned maintenance program to insure budget compliance; schedule OJT training, estimating cost for maintenance activities or secondary road construction projects, responding to inquiries from public; conducting routine safety audits of facility/worksites; recordkeeping (inventory, Accident Reports, Equipment Inspections Sheets, FR-1101's, etc.) Work closely with various municipalities, and other State agencies. This employee will be exposed to extreme heat and cold, dust, outside conditions and high volume of traffic while in work zones. Person will be required to operate a personal computer and various computer programs such as Microsoft Office, BEACON, SAP, and MMS. Performs other duties as assigned by the County Maintenance Engineer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience in roadway maintenance and repair in one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, asphalt patching, snow and ice removal, crack sealing, full depth patching or pothole patching
- Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
- Experience supervising subordinates and directing the daily activities of a work crew
- Experience in Advanced Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices
- Experience in planning and organizing work
Ability to investigate citizen inquiries and the ability to respond in writing or by phone as necessary. Ability to supervise personnel and interpret and apply personnel policies and procedures including, but not limited to: interviewing new hires; performance management appraisals; employee development plans; timekeeping; leave request approval; accident investigations; and disciplinary actions. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing a plan to best utilize all labor and equipment in the removal of snow and ice. Employee will be subject to emergency call back and must have the ability to supervise work crews 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for situations which may occur after working hours, on weekends and holidays. Employee should have working knowledge of basic construction tool such as survey level and transit. Ability to work under extreme working conditions such as severe heat and extreme cold; and walk on uneven terrain. Steel toe shoes required. Must have a valid driver's license.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and seven years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
