Instrument Service Engineer

EAG Laboratories has a great opportunity for an Instrumentation Electrical Engineer, within the Materials Characterization service group. This position will provide an opportunity to troubleshooting, repair, and design of electronic subsystems a variety of surface analytical instrumentation. This will also include maintenance of mechanical subsystems and support of daily laboratory and facilities activities. The position is at the EAG-Princeton site, however, the job may occasionally require support of other EAG sites.

Key Responsibilities:

* Troubleshoot and repair, on an emergency basis, faulty instruments (SIMS, Auger, XPS, etc.) and peripherals (vacuum pumps, chillers, UPS, etc.), providing rapid response and minimizing downtime.

* Perform and log routine/preventive maintenance on instruments and peripherals according to maintenance plan/schedule.

* Find new sources or develop/design upgrades for obsolete parts and assemblies.

* Provide technical support and training to service team members.

* Maintain adequate stock levels of spare parts and peripherals.

* Maintain, organize, and create technical documentation, procedures, schematics, work instructions, and parts lists.

* Provide timely updates to management in the form of status reports and service reports.

* Assist with the development and implementation of computer based service management system.

Minimum Qualifications


* BSEE or experience in troubleshooting and design of analog and digital circuitry.

Skills and Experience:

* Computer proficiency with basic understanding of control and interface technology.

* Outstanding mechanical skills with the ability to work patiently with high value precision assemblies as well as larger UHV assemblies.

* Possess a natural curiosity in a wide range of areas that will allow problem solving in areas with little or no experience.

* Able to work independently with little supervision.

* Mechanical and electrical CAD experience or the desire to learn once on board.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or five years of experience in designing and troubleshooting analog and digital electronics.
