The Portsmouth Health Department is currently seeking an exceptional individual to serve as an Office Services Assistant. The successful candidate Independently performs clerical tasks which require judgement and interpretation. Routinely provides administrative support to health department programs, including family planning, immunizations and sexual transmitted infection. Accurately completes daily registration, insurance verification and data entry into multiple computer programs and insurance web-based portals. Schedules appointments and completes chart organization with appropriate forms and signatures. Performs Reception and daily office duties, including opening and closing procedures. Daily office deposits. Performs confidential interviews to verify eligibility information according to State and Federal guidelines. Explains policies to clients regarding eligibility and billing processes while ensuring proper documentation is provided. Checks clients out and obtains payment for services rendered. HIPAA complaint. Working knowledge in federal, state and local government helpful. Minimum Qualifications

Experience scheduling client appointment. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly confidential setting, meet deadlines, organize and maintain records in an extremely busy, high volume office environment highly preferred. Ability to organize and prioritize workload with strict attention to detail. Skilled in the operation of data processing equipment. Ability to independently perform a variety of duties requiring interpretation and judgment in application of regulations, policy and procedures.Working knowledge of general medical office practices. Computer experience and proficiency in MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous medical office experience is preferred; Bilingual in Spanish highly recommended; Associates degree or equivalent field preferred.

Special Requirements

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Serviceâs Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E- Verify. The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if applicable (Va. Code § 2.2-3114). Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions. Any interviewed candidate must sign a release that authorizes the Virginia Department of Health to obtain information related to applicants work history, educational credentials, and criminal background.
