Providence is calling a Service Equipment Specialist - Home Medical Equipment Distribution (1.0 FTE, Evenings) to Providence Home Services Building in Portland, OR.

The scheduled hours for this position are 11:30am - 7:30pm - Days : Sunday - Thursday. Some overtime may be required.

We are seeking a Service Equipment Specialist - Home Medical Equipment Distribution who will instruct, educate, and deliver home medical equipment to patients. This position is required to educate and instruct each patient, family member or caregiver on the correct use and function of each piece of equipment delivered and completes all associated and required documentation. Perform home environmental safety inspections to include safe access into the home, throw rugs, and use of equipment in a multi-level home, smoke detectors, and working electrical outlets. Review the disaster preparedness instruction pamphlet and patient rights and responsibilities with the patient/caregiver. Perform customer service functions and facilitates minor equipment repairs. Follow The Joint Commission, Oregon State Health Administration, and Oregon Department of Transportation and Washington Department of Transportation regulatory guidelines. This is a front line position, that functions independently. The Service Equipment Specialist is responsible for communicating and coordinating service with patients, physicians, nurses, and referral sources. Providence Home Services Home Medical Equipment provides a variety of oxygen systems, home medical equipment, respiratory equipment, and soft goods for patients who do not require hospitalization but need medical equipment to recuperate and function in a home setting.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and prioritize deliveries according to hospital discharges, urgent patient needs, and geographic area
  • Contact each customer at the beginning of each business day to establish a delivery time
  • Perform home environmental safety assessment evaluating for potential hazards for users of home medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, canes, and oxygen systems
  • Instruct and educate patients or caregivers on the safe use of various home medical equipment
  • Maintain current knowledge of all patient care and vehicle equipment associated with job responsibilities
  • Maintain delivery vehicle
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels on delivery vehicle
  • Responsible for tracking of company assets by identifying the asset and/or serial number on the delivery invoices
  • Ensure clean equipment is separated from soiled equipment within the delivery vehicle cargo area
  • Utilize Interpreter Service Policy and Procedure processes
  • Inform the patient of the full retail cost of the services provided at the time of the delivery
  • Maintain current knowledge accessing network providers and geographic delivery area for out-of-area after hours deliveries
  • Participate in departmental meetings and continuing education
  • Utilize phone techniques when speaking with patients or referral sources
  • Follow established answering service processes
  • Load vehicles

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • High school Diploma -OR- GED -OR- equivalent education/experience
  • Federal Motor Carrier Medical Examiners Interstate Certificate
  • Class C Oregon or Washington Commercial Drivers Permit
  • Must obtain a Class C Oregon or Washington Commercial License with Hazardous Materials and Air Brake endorsements within 60 days of hire start date
  • No more than one moving violation -OR- one chargeable accident within the last three years
  • In compliance with Providence Health & Services-OR Human Resources policy # 302 'Background Checks' a criminal background check for this position prior to hire

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Two (2) years of mechanical experience with home medical equipment
  • Two (2) years of experience in the home medical equipment industry
  • Two (2) years of experience in a customer service
