The Director, Research leads and manages all aspects of the investment process. Key efforts include optimizing the investment manager buy list, maximizing after-tax performance, encouraging proprietary research, negotiating access and fee reductions with managers and overseeing the monitoring of strategy performance through the analysis of portfolio holdings, returns, and other qualitative and quantitative investment manager data. Additionally, the Director, Research has client contact and works with specific clients.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Oversee all ongoing activities of the research group (traditional, hedge funds or private markets), including market analysis, manager research, due diligence and ongoing monitoring of funds on buy list
  • Manage, train and mentor members of research team on an ongoing basis
  • Work directly with clients and advisors to develop, structure, maintain and report on client investments
  • Actively participate in investment related working groups and committee meetings; present managers, market developments and investment theses
  • Participate in business development efforts including the marketing of capabilities to current and prospective clients
  • Participate in appropriate industry organizations such as FOX and IPI thru attendance and speaking engagements
  • Oversee and participate in the production of research pieces including white papers, panel discussions, market research calls, etc.
  • Oversee the production of quarterly manager and asset class commentary and analysis
  • Create publications to compare and contrast investment strategies
  • Conduct in-person manager due diligence meetings
  • Help to ensure quality of marketing materials as they relate to research
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of research activities
  • May serve as portfolio manager to an investment product
  • Advanced degree and/or CFA preferred
  • Five to ten years of directly relevant experience in investment manager research
  • Excellent writing and quantitative skills
  • Must work well in a team environment and adhere to high ethical standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with clients, managers and colleagues
  • Knowledge of computer programs
  • In-depth knowledge of financial/investment concepts
  • Superior analytical abilities and attention to detail
  • Must work well in a team environment and adhere to high ethical standards
