Providence is calling a Director of Education, Professional Practice and Nursing Quality - Nursing Service Administration (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence St Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR

We are seeking a Director Education, Professional Practice and Nursing Quality - Nursing Service Administration that will assist the Chief Nursing Officer in the administration and leadership of achieving the goals of the department, organization and clinical service area. Assumes responsibility for the oversight and outcomes within a specified clinical specialty area by forecasting trends, setting strategic objectives, providing leadership and development to RN Coordinator- Clinical Education caregivers, and through the implementation of actions to achieve defined clinical, financial and strategic outcomes. Demonstrates advanced communication skills and the ability to manage and mediate conflict, appropriately settling disputes while upholding the organization's commitment to core values, productivity and quality.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Actively update knowledge of nursing leaders and caregivers about nursing trends, issues, patient care, outcomes, and practice
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection and development of nurse leaders within a defined area, and assumes accountability for the recruitment, retention, development and satisfaction of staff within the area
  • Develop and manage the budget for the assigned clinical division
  • Assess, plan, initiate and evaluate teaching/coaching based on assessment of person, professional or organizational needs
  • Identify the needs of nursing and ancillary departments that provide patient care as it relates to the strategic plan, departmental objectives and support of clinical and management decisions
  • Set Nursing Practice Standards based on scientific and research-based principles to promote clinical innovation and nursing research across clinical practice settings
  • Represent Department of Nursing and patient care on internal and external committees and task forces locally and nationally; this includes Clinical Ladder Board
  • Advocate for excellence in patient care and nursing practice, for changes in process of care delivery, and for professional development opportunities
  • Define, develop, and direct implementation of departmental goals and programs for the organization and recommends directional changes as appropriate
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of existing and new programs aimed at improving care delivery, patient safety, service and other Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Oregon Region System objectives
  • Promote and expand a culture of safety, high reliability, and ownership for quality and safety throughout the ministry (and with Caregivers at all levels)
  • Serve as a change agent and champion to drive organizational transformation in alignment with strategy and vision
  • Collaborate with executives and engages with leaders and Caregivers throughout the organization in a hands-on fashion to build professional practice efficiency and a sense of shared accountability
  • Identify opportunities for improvement based on evidence-based practices, regulatory and accrediting agency requirements and monitoring of high risk, high volume and/or problem prone processes
  • Be responsible for supporting and maintaining the ministryâs American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Designation
  • Meet routinely with Nurses, Physicians, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nursing Supervisors, Social Workers, Case Managers and/or Acute and Critical Care Managers, Clinical Development Specialists, Managers, other clinical departments and their leaders, and ancillary departments to assess needs in relation to providing quality care to the patients served
  • Advocate for, develops, uses and coaches others in utilization of resources available to assist when resolving an ethical dilemma that protects patient rights and autonomy
  • Provide consultation and guidance to nursing units and divisions on achieving quality, productivity and patient satisfaction goals

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Master's Degree in an applied clinical field
  • Current Nursing License in the State of Oregon
  • Five (5) years of healthcare/direct clinic patient care, with experience in progressive leadership roles

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training: Change facilitator, Lean Belt
  • Healthcare specific emergency management experience
  • National RN specialty
    certification
