Data Visualization Designer

Do you have a passion for research and analysis and graphic design? Do you have experience developing data in a visual form for its maximum impact? Multnomah County Department of Community Justice is seeking a full-time Data Visualization Designer to work with the Research & Planning Unit at our Southeast Portland location.

The Research & Planning Unit collects, interprets, analyzes, and disseminates information used by stakeholders for operational decision-making, policy formulation, mandatory reporting, quality assurance, and release to the general public. This position works under the direction of and in collaboration with the Research and Planning Operations Manager.

In this role you will be responsible for:

* Designing and developing infographics, dashboards, and other data visualizations that engage internal and external stakeholders.

* Identifying and implementing approaches to visual expressions that help communicate and demonstrate the significance and impacts to department operations, while maximizing user accessibility.

* Maintaining awareness of departmental data sources, data reporting priorities and the most compelling visual formats to express these priorities.

Common tasks you may perform:

* Apply your awareness of design expertise to the creation of infographics and data interactive projects.

* Create and adhere to Quality Assurance and best practices in data visualization and graphic design. Identify and research available data sources including performing validity and reliability checks of primary and secondary data sources.

* Engage with diverse stakeholders including DCJ staff, external users and peers on the Research and Planning Team to identify data needs.

* Contribute to the dissemination and communication planning of infographics and data visualizations, including conducting product demos and providing training materials and user manuals.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

* Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer and information sciences, visual communications, graphic design, or media arts and sciences, or a related field demonstrating the capacity for the required knowledge.

* Two years of work experience in data visualization design work.

* Working knowledge of best practices in graphic design.

* Working ability to create infographics and data dashboards in Tableau (Version 7 or above).

* Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, which includes a national fingerprint based background check .

Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. * Advanced coursework in math, statistics, research methodology or computer science.

* Advanced knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Cloud.

* SQL Server Training Certification.

* Certification as a Tableau Desktop or Server Qualified Associate (Version 7 or above) or ability to receive within 90 days of hire.
