HUENEME ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

2322.21 ENGLISH LEARNER SUPPORT TEACHER

DEFINITION

Under the supervision ofthe Senior Director, Educational Projects and the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, the English Leamer Support Teacher assists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the EL program districtwide; collaborate with site administrators and staff to ensure quality English Language Development (ELD) instruction daily and support the academic language achievement of English Learners.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

* Manage and update databases on all District EL students.

* Access reports from district and state databases related to EL students for data analysis and program planning.

* Coordinate District LAS testing.

* Coordinate EL instructional assistant training.

* Update District ELL Program Plan.

* Coordinate/generate/monitor local and state EL data.

* Assist in Federal Program Monitoring.

* Coordinate State and Local Language Proficiency Assessments at the District level including organizing materials and training test examiners.

* Assist in ELD program monitoring to ensure English Learners advance a minimum of one ELD level per year, reach proficiency levels and are reclassified in a timely manner.

* Monitor student progress in ELD proficiency levels and progress towards reclassification and communicate with students, teachers and parents about ways to accelerate progress.

* Assist teachers by modeling, co-teaching and demonstrating lessons.

* Provide tutorial, intervention and extended learning support for students.

* Assist with data analysis, grouping for ELD, and research based instructional practices.

* Assist site and district administrators to provide professional development related to the teaching and learning of English Learners.

* Assist site administrators with parent involvement and outreach.

* Assist site administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of the school's Single Plan for Student Achievement.

* Interface with district data personnel on maintaining accurate data and programs for English Learners.

* Assist district administrators in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of LEP programs districtwide.

* Assist district administrators in reviewing, evaluating and revising district documents and frameworks related to English Learner programs.

* Participate in school, district, and regional committees at the request of district administrators.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* At least five years of successful teaching experience where English Language Development (ELD) has been implemented.

* Knowledge of California English Language Development Standards (2012).

* Knowledge ofHESD CCSS Curricular Units.> Experience in successfully working with English Learners utilizing differentiatedinstructional strategies.

* Establish and maintain positive working relationships and be able to collaborateeffectively with other professionals.

* Must hold appropriate California Teaching Credential.

* Must possess an English Language Development authorization.

ABILITY TO:

* Work collaboratively and effectively with District administrators, teachers and parents.

* Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, in English and Spanish.

EDUCATION:

* Additional graduate study relevant to the position is desirable

EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated leadership ability, as evidenced by collaborative work with curriculum and other committees, student government, or service groups, and community service organizations> The ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
