Electric Drive Lab Technician

Responsibilities

Position is for an Electric Drive Lab technician to support electronics component development and testing in a Testing Lab.

Job duties include operating, troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment including power supplies, digital multimeters, solder stations, thermocouple instrumentation, thermal chambers, chillers, etc.

Assembles, fabricates and reworks electronics test boxes, connectors and wire harnesses.

Ability to learn complex test set ups and run environmental and product operating tests is required.

Duties also include wire harness, connector and power cable harnesses fabrication, component and circuit card repair, test set ups including electrical and coolant.

Looking for an all around technician that is able to handle thermal chambers, chillers, pumps and radiators, equipment controllers and fabricate/troubleshoot electronics test boxes, wiring harnesses and power cables.

High Voltage experience is preferred.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

* Knowledge in MS Office (Word) Intermediate level

* Knowledge with Lotus Notes or other email communication tool

* Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally

* Strong written and oral communication skills necessary for meetings and presentations

* Ability to work well with others, exhibiting teamwork skills

* Ability to multitask by handling diverse assignments concurrently

* Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback

* Displays attributes of a critical thinker and leverages innovative ideas

* Advanced ability to identify issues and problems, generate solutions and choose appropriate alternatives using root cause analysis where problems are more complex

* Basic knowledge of complex mechanical and/or electrical concepts

* Basic math knowledge

* Ability to read engineering drawings

* Position related experience

* Relevant auto industry experience required

* Areas of expertise include: Quality, Testing and Automotive systems

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING:

* High School Diploma or GED

* Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical field or Automotive Technology or equivalent training

TYPICAL DAY:

* Working through Power electronics work request reports

* Fabrication (20%) and wire harness (30%)

* Test product build 10%

* Test operation 10%

* Engineer support 10%

* Soldering (30-40%)

* Working within the Electric Drive lab

* Power electronics or power electricians

* Soldering, wire harness fabrication, test set up sort, build cables, pick up and operate chillers and chambers

* Working with plumbing, and thermal chillers

* Cooling the product with automotive coolant (antifreeze)

* Working within their own work station- 40-60% split working on their work bench and working on the floor

DELIVERABLES:

* Must respond in a timely manner to the engineers request

* Must accept and execute on work requests

MUST HAVE:

* Must have experience with soldering, wire harness fabrication

* Knowing what tools and processes are involved for

* Must be able to read schematics

* Must be able to problem solve

* Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years experience

* Highly preferred: High voltage experience (50 bolts or higher, or Electronics component experience

TOOLS:

* Will be working with soldering irons, crimpers, vices, sockets, wrenches, screw drivers, drills, heat guns

EDUCATION:

* Associates Degree is required
