The Case Cart Technician I is responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of a case cart system in the Operating Room. He/she will work closely with the Sterile Processing Department, Operating Room staff, management to ensure an organized, integrated system assuring the proper instruments and supplies are available for each surgical procedure. Responsibilities will include, actual case picking, input into instrument/supply inventory and storage, integration with the surgical computer software system and design of appropriate case cart documentation/follow-up procedures. He/she will serve as a resource to the OR and SPD staff regarding the overall case cart system, instrument supply procurement and storage. The Case Cart Technician I must have a strong working knowledge of all surgical instruments and supplies. He/she must be self motivated, attentive to detail, collaborative, reliable, systems oriented with strong communication and problem solving skills.
In collaboration with the management team, OR/SPD staff and surgeons, maintains a case cart system modified to the existing physical plant limitation but capable of being upgraded to a complete case cart system. Assists with standardizing and streamlining both elective and urgent/emergent preference cards, instrument sets, custom packs and case set-ups. Maintains knowledge of the documentation system that supports a case cart system to include instrument and supply lists, storage locations, pick lists, and charges. Provides ongoing input into the existing OR instrument, supply, equipment and storage systems to balance effectiveness with efficiency. Assists to maintain logical, efficient work spaces to set-up case carts and support the use of case carts in each procedure room. Assists in developing and maintaining instrument and supply inventory controls. In collaboration with SPD, maintains appropriate instrument and supply transport, and storage systems to support case carts. Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of the surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment required for each procedure. Maintains knowledge of the computerized surgical information and scheduling system and assists in integrating its capabilities into the case cart system. Works with SPD staff to ensure proper decontamination, cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing procedures are done according to applicable standards. Maintains knowledge and performs all tasks and responsibilities in accordance with the Universal Precautions Infection Control and Exposure Control policies and all applicable standards. Checks and maintains appropriate supply levels of inventory. Assists in the ordering, inventory control, and receiving of emergency supply orders. Other duties as assigned.
High school graduate or GED. One (1) year of perioperative experience or as an SPD Tech I required. Case Cart experience preferred. If no applicants with this experience, applicants with previous case cart experience or other sterile processing experience will be considered. Meets requirements of pre-employment screening and physical.
