RN Quality Assessment Specialist

The Quality Assessment (QA) Specialist RN supports quality assessment activities for Trauma Services. Duties include the screening of patient charts against American College of Surgeons criteria and evaluating cases for Trauma Review Committee. Additional duties include the collection and reporting of quality assurance data for medical record evaluation, clinical study completion, coordination of findings, appropriate referrals and participation in Injury Prevention programming.


* Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.


* A minimum of five years recent experience in an acute hospital setting, Emergency and or critical care experience preferred.

* Clinical expertise to effectively evaluate quality of care; concurrent and retrospective chart review; American College of Surgeons Verification Standards, Joint Commission (JC) accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement processes.

* Knowledge of widespread clinical norms as they apply to current medical practice; knowledge of automated data information systems as applicable to hospital and medical staff activities; knowledge of basic records maintenance, data collection and interpretation; proficiency in Microsoft Windows Office products preferred.


* Ability to communicate effectively using written and verbal skills, ability to evaluate patient outcomes and adverse medical events using current standards of medical care in the community and the ability to comprehend and evaluate the significance of legal issues and problems uncovered through quality assessment activities.

* The ability to use good judgment in interacting with physicians; ability to work independently; ability to work with frequent interruptions; ability to reprioritize work as needed; excellent organizational, and interpersonal skills are required; basic ability with Microsoft Word and Excel.
