Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania you will take a lead role in the design, development, maintenance, and ongoing support of the Wayside Hardware deliverables for a given project.

You will be primarily responsible for executing and/or supporting all aspects of the hardware engineering design process and also will be guiding and mentoring younger and less experienced members of the group as well as aiding in the development and refinement of the engineering processes that govern the actions of the group.

You will be regarded as a proactive, collaborative, and knowledgeable technical lead within the Wayside Hardware group.

In your role you will:

* Develop Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings, bill of material structure, and electrical interface design to support the development, manufacture, and test of project specific deliverables;

* Develop and maintain engineering design schedules and scope definitions;

* Participate in both internal and customer design reviews throughout the design process;

* Follow all applicable engineering design processes;

* Act as primary support function for troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues relating to any/all project hardware deliverables and provide on-site support as needed;

* Write technical documentation such as functional descriptions, interface control documents, technical papers/explanations, and design plans;

* Work with other engineering resources and departments to maintain an inclusive, collaborative, and comprehensive approach to all technical documentation;

* Prepare hardware qualification test plans and procedures relating to both the functional and non-functional aspects of all design deliverables, this includes the support of hardware qualification to all applicable European Committee for Electrotechnical Standarization (CENELEC) and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) standards;

* Analyze customer specifications and define from them the hardware design requirements;

* Perform all requirements management activities through the design phase and perform the requirements verification upon completion of design;

* Maintain sound requirements management practices through all phases of the project lifecycle.

As our ideal candidate:

* You hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar;

* You have seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in hardware or electrical design;

* You own experience in the design of both low voltage AC and DC power and control systems;

* You are familiar with the requirements and constraints relating to hardware design as specified in the CENELEC and AREMA standards;

* You possess experience in adapting, maintaining, and working to aggressive or dynamic schedules;

* You own superior verbal and written communication skills for effective interfacing with technical team members from various cultural backgrounds.
