Description

Purpose:

The Developmental Specialist II (Casual) will provide daily instruction to patients on the WPIC inpatient units. The Developmental Specialist will assess all patients, plan their lessons, monitor their progress, and communicate with their home school. In addition, the Developmental Specialist will communicate with the treatment team on a regular basis regarding each patient's classroom performance and behavior.

Responsibilities:

* Attend meetings/staff development as required and present educational information as needed.

* Collect and report a detailed school history to help in the formation of educational recommendations.

* Communicate on a regular basis with the student's home school.

* Conduct instructional sessions for 3 hours each day.

* Inform school of student's progress, including discharge summaries.

* Observe and record academic progress and patient behavior. Present information at treatment team meetings each week.

* Write daily lesson plans for each student assigned. Plans for Monday thru Friday are due by the end of the previous week.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or Child Development with one (1) year of relevant teaching experience required.

OR

* Bachelor's degree in behavioral health field with three (3) years of relevant teaching experience required.

OR

* Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or Child Development with six (6) months of relevant experience required.

* Ability to relate sensitively to students and be consistently responsive to their needs.

* Emotional stability, maturity and show evidence of good judgment.

* Knowledge and understanding of developmentally appropriate practices.

* Effectively communicate information to other staff members, parents, visitors, etc.

* Supervisory and leadership skills strongly preferred.

* Successful teaching experience with students with special needs as documented by supervisor evaluations.

* Previous experience in a treatment setting preferred.

* May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

* Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Special Education or Emotionally Socially disturbed required.

* Act 114 Pennsylvania Department of Education FBI Clearance

* Act 168

* Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal

* Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal

* Act 48 Continuing Professional Education Requirements (completion of 180 continuing professional education hours every 5 years) to maintain an active teaching certification required. Maintain all Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requirements, including any new requirements deemed necessary by PDE.

* Act 73 FBI Clearance

* Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

* Comprehensive Crisis Management
