Description:

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), is currently seeking a Conference Assistant (CA) for assistance with conference and event services for the Public Relations department. The Conference Assistant (CA) is primarily responsible for providing customer service to individuals and groups participating in summer conferences at the University of Pikeville. As a member of the summer conferences staff, the CA is responsible for a variety of administrative and public-relations functions including the following:

Responsibilities:

* Develop positive working relationships with conference guests including adolescent and adult attendees;

* Develop positive working relationships with fellow UPIKE staff members, including Conference and Event Services, Residence Life, Student Activities, Aramark housekeeping, facilities, IT, and Public Safety;

* Act as a positive role model representing the University of Pikeville;

* With other Conference Assistant staff, prepare buildings for summer occupancy, including conducting damage inspections and key inventories, preparing bulletin boards, and setting up supply closets;

* Work check-in and check-out events of conference guests, including providing good customer service, conducting pre- and post-room checks for damages, completing appropriate paperwork, and inventorying room keys;

* Assist with the set-up and tear-down of chairs, tables, linens, audio/visual equipment, etc. in meeting and event spaces throughout campus;

* Provide overnight duty coverage to conference guests and work closely with Public Safety and Residence Life when responding to lock-outs, maintenance issues, conduct incidents, and emergency situations as needed;

* Attend a weekly staff meeting to coordinate efforts with other staff and receive updates;

* Provide appropriate and timely feedback about each conference process to the Director of Conference and Event Services and/or the Director of Residence Life; and

* Complete other tasks as assigned by Conference and Events Services or other the Office of Residence Life professional staff.

Dates of Employment:

The Conference Assistant will be a temporary position with a start date of June 5, 2018 and will continue through August 1, 2018. CAs will work an average of 20-25 hours per week. Hours will vary from week to week to week based on conference schedule. CAs must be available to work weekend and evening hours when required.

Requirements:

* Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50

* Must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and in good legal standing in the state of Kentucky.

* Must not engage in or agree to additional on-campus employment while employed as a Conference Assistant

* Conference Assistants will need to have approval from their supervisor regarding any courses taken over the summer

* Must be enrolled in classes for Summer 2018 or Fall 2018 (cannot graduate in May 2018)

* Must currently live on campus

Conference Assistants are required to live on-campus for the summer and are provided housing. CAs will be provided food through dining services throughout the summer as available based on the summer events schedule. Housing contracts for CAs will end on August 1st. This means that CAs who are not living on campus for the 2018-2019 academic year will need to find other housing accommodations by August 6th.
