Responsibilities

Serve as staff assistant to the Manager, for Transmission Lines and Substations Maintenance office of the Desert Southwest Customer Service Region (DSW), providing technical assistance, advice, and expertise in the functions of the Division. Develops project, resource, and management plans for assigned projects. Responsible for the development of and coordination of design, data gathering, and documentation of power system replacements, additions and modifications. Prepares cost estimates, budget request, opens and closes work orders associated with maintenance projects, tracks all project costs, and provides various reports associated with the projects. These projects may include replacements, additions, modifications and/or new installations of power system equipment. Coordinates and reviews transmission lines and substation maintenance programs for compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations. Advises Maintenance Manger on areas of potential non-compliance and recommends course of action. Coordinates with the Environmental Department and assists with procurement actions for the disposal of toxic materials and hazardous wastes in accordance with applicable regulations.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

* Knowledge of maintenance practices associated with substations, transmission lines, and other transmission facilities to provide guidance related to design, construction, daily operations and maintenance of high voltage power system.

* Knowledge of interrelated engineering functions that impact the maintenance program (i.e., design, construction, and operation).

* Knowledge of heavy equipment fleet management process.

* Ability to exercise independent judgment in solving leadership and technical problems. Knowledge of electrical and civil drawings.

* Working knowledge of budget and procurement process, including contacts, developing technical specifications, and sole source justifications.
