Maintenance Manager Responsibilities

  • Be on duty at times of peak maintenance and bus/taxi operations.
  • Maintain and submit upon request monthly maintenance reports via Collective Data software including mileage, vehicle condition reports (structural and drive-train), fuel and fluid consumption, and in-service percentages for the vehicle fleet.
  • Manage warranty claims and enforcement, if applicable. Insure that spare part inventories are properly maintained and sufficient to insure in-service objectives.
  • Maintain daily reports of fleet availability, vehicles undergoing maintenance, and when they are expected to be returned to service.
  • Must be a dedicated employee full time to the Total Transit operation/contract and ensure all reporting requirements are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Schedules and administers fleet maintenance, assists in troubleshooting problems with equipment. Communicates availability of vehicles for service with dispatch and other operations personnel.
  • In relation to subordinates, is responsible for hiring; firing; approving salary increases or decreases; training and employee development; planning and directing the work; disciplining; handling employee complaints or grievances; and handling performance reviews. While the Mgr Maintenance is required to make personnel-related recommendations, some actions require further approval.
  • Works closely with the location manager and region maintenance management providing status of maintenance and budget requirements. May review financial and budget variances, review repair orders or code and approve account payable documents.
  • Ensures compliance on a day-to-day basis with State, Federal and Company requirements. Ensures a safe environment exists and that all maintenance and related activities are in conformance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews repair orders. May order fuel for vehicles, order parts, and subcontract repair work.
  • Initiates and implements projects that improve efficiency and/or reduces operating costs.
  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are trained on current operating procedures, are properly equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.
  • Supervises vehicle fueling/cleaning. May arrange services for buildings and ground keeping.
  • Completes special projects as assigned. Required to perform hands-on work activities.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, adjust/test/rebuild engines etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements
  • Oversee (and personally comply with) the local implementation of NELLC maintenance and safety standard operating procedures in this maintenance facility, ensuring that local maintenance staff follow them, and comply with all locally applicable public authority legislation, regulation and standards
  • Oversee the local use of NELLC's EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) ERP application, and maintenance facility staff to record and to track local maintenance work orders and local parts inventory. (This includes using this application personally.)
  • Oversee the parts inventory maintained and used in this maintenance facility
  • Oversee (and participate in when appropriate) the work needed to implement preventive maintenance for the vehicles serviced by this maintenance facility
  • Oversee (and participate in when appropriate) the work needed to complete “unscheduled repairs“ to the vehicles services by this maintenance facility
  • Represent the maintenance activity at the local level in its interaction, communication and coordination of activities with other local operations functions: driver care, route operations, and customer care
  • Supervise the maintenance staff at this maintenance facility

  • Five years or more of fleet Supervisor experience in a Diesel Shop with Heavy/Med duty fleets
  • Minimum of seven to ten years Auto / Truck or Bus mechanical repair experience
  • Experience with Compliance with the local applicable DOT compliance of Med / Heavy Trucks
  • Prefer ASE Certification as a Master Automotive Technician and/or a Master Truck Technician
  • Must be computer proficient
  • Strong experience with computerized diagnostics
  • Ability to use good judgment and Decision Making skills
  • Background in planning and scheduling maintenance repairs (Daily, Weekly, Monthly)
  • Oversee the parts inventory maintained and used in this maintenance facility
  • Supervisor experience in purchasing, and budget management experience
  • Associates degree
  • ASE automotive/truck certifications (master level preferred)
  • Experience with alternative fuel technologies
  • May require lifting of 20 to 50 lbs
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent Computer skills
  • Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines
  • Strong managerial and training experience with 5 years in maintenance supervision and administration.
