Health-care reporter

The Arizona Republic, part of the USA TODAY Network, seeks a reporter to cover health-care issues in Arizona by focusing first on consumers. Coverage will emphasize news and enterprise with a direct effect on people's lives and well-being: quality of care, access to care, cost of care, compelling medical research and the changing health-care environment.

We expect aggressive and exclusive reporting, smart coverage of the news, strong social skills and a watchdog sensibility.

Typical duties:

* Identify trends and developing stories and pursue enterprise/investigative work to uncover stories that no one else is reporting.

* Jump on breaking news. Research, write, report, photograph, video and/or voice a variety of stories.

* Engage on social media with sources and audience.

Requirements:

* Extensive knowledge of the beat area.

* High-level writing and editing skills, demonstrated ability to identify developing stories and distill complex matters.

* Able to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, juggle multiple tasks.

* 5+ years journalism experience.
