Global Education Coordinator

SUMMARY: Under general direction, the Global Education Coordinator will have responsibility for coordinating the study abroad program, supporting internationalization of curriculum, advocating and collaborating for campus-wide global mindset, and providing support to international students.

SUPERVISES: No Supervisory responsibilities

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

1. Research, recommend, plan, promote, and support study abroad opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Monitor and effectiveness of international activities; recommend changes where appropriate.

2. Arrange for and coordinate supportive services and efforts to include recruiting and orienting host families, coordinating transportation, monitoring living arrangements, and providing on-going support as needed by participants and families.

3. Coordinate the implementation of all international travel arrangements for students, faculty, and staff. Present recommendations for approval and summarize experiences to the District Board for better understanding and commitment toward internationalization efforts.

4. Work with faculty to internationalize curriculum and in collaboration with co-workers to develop international co-curricular programs and services.

5. Represent Global Education and the College through leadership and participation in external organizations, social events, and internal and external committees.

6. Plan, coordinate, and participate in social and cultural enrichment activities. Partner with community employers to provide students with job shadowing and related work experiences.

7. Prepare and manage the international education departmental budget. Monitor budget and approve expenditures in compliance with College policies and procedures.

8. Update and maintain the College's international education website; develop and maintain social media programs as appropriate.

9. Coordinate the work of student workers.

10. Coordinate all aspects of J-1 student visa programs to include identifying potential grant funding, writing compliance reports, planning and managing grant budgets, and oversee student orientations. Oversee the recruitment, orientation, and admission/compliance process for F-1 international students.

11. Assist international students in understanding and complying with governmental and project requirements, College policies and procedures, and acclimation to life in the United States. Respond to emergencies, issues, or problems involving international student programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements

* Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with non-native English speakers through working knowledge of a world language.

* Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.

* Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in the application and interpretation of program goals, policies, and regulations.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.

* Ability to work periodic evening and weekend hours and travel internationally.

* Knowledge of budget management.

* Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license.

* Citizen or lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (DSO required).

Education and Experience Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Education, Business, Human Services or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

* Three years of work experience in international education or student services.

* Experience living or studying abroad.

* Public speaking experience preferred.

Position Information

This is a full- time, 12 month per calendar year position. Hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Salary is listed at the 2018-19 rates.

All candidates who are invited to the second interview MUST be in person. Travel will be reimbursed up to $300 (for the second interview only)
