Infection Control Specialist

The infection control Specialist (ICS) is an entry level position. The ICS is responsible for actively pursuing the appropriate education and experience to allow him/her to function in the Infection Control program as an independent practitioner within two years of accepting the position. The educational program and experiences will be guided and directed by the Infection Control Professionals. It is expected the ICS will attend a formal educational program offered either by CDC or APIC within six months of beginning the position. Responsibility for tasks associated with the program will be delegated as education and experience permits. Experience/Training: Minimum of 1 year work experience in Infection Control preferred. Education: Bachelor in nursing or other related field, or work in progress. Diploma or transcripts on highest degree earned required. Preferred Basic Infection Control training course. Licenses/Certifications: Current California licensure as a registered nurse or medical technologist. Skills: A working knowledge of infection surveillance and control functions including: Epidemiological principles and infectious disease. Sterilization sanitation and disinfection practices.
