Job Description

Varian is looking for a Senior VMWare Linux System Engineer to join our team. In this key role, the Senior VMWare Linux System Engineer will be responsible for the administration and operations of Varian's Linux, Unix and ESXi server and storage infrastructure, collaborating with application and infrastructure groups on project implementation and daily operations.

The person in this role will work to ensure Varian's infrastructure operations are conducted in accordance with standard procedures and meet our Service Level Agreements. Contribute to all aspects of infrastructure daily operations and special projects.

Responsibilities:

* Maintain a strong service perspective and provide exceptional service to all infrastructure customers.

* Contribute to projects that include network, server, storage and virtualization, with local and global scope.

* Collaborate with resources from all groups to create and maintain infrastructure standards.

* Manage, facilitate and deploy new infrastructure as prioritized by technology management, including implementation, support and operations.

* Manage work queues for incidents, problems, changes, tasks and requests and ensure workload is effectively managed.

* Coordinate with network team, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability and scalability of VMWare and Linux systems.

* Provide senior-level support for Varian RedHat/SuSE Linux and ESXi systems globally.

* Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.

* Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports

* Recommend and execute modifications to VMWare and Linux systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

* Establish and implement process, procedures, and technologies to ensure VMWare system security.

VCenter, VCloud Director, VMWare View systems globally.

* Review and implement new VMWare, RedHat and SuSE system releases and vendor supplied patches.

* Comply with and advocate for the use of operational processes and procedures.

* Provide valuable analysis of storage performance and capacity data, use this to optimize the storage environment, and provide forecasting and trend analysis to facilitate planning.

* Provide 7x24 Level 3 support for production systems.

* Partner with existing support resources and peers to ensure effective and efficient operations.

* Support enterprise-level file system configuration and management.

* Support Disaster Recovery planning and execution.

* Ensure process adherence, quality and improvement of operations.

* Responsible for delivering excellence via a commitment to service and quality.

* Ensure system updates, and keeps up with maintenance and hardware/software refresh.

Job Requirements

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

* 8+ years of experience

* Certifications in VMWare Systems Administration.

* VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) is a plus.

* Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining VMWare NSX, VCloud Director, vSphere and Horizon servers with a global scope.

* Knowledge and experience with multiple Storage vendors' is a definite plus – NetApp/Compellent

* Ability to design robust processes for complex problems.

* Ability to recognize relationships and inter-dependencies between systems and processes.

* Advanced knowledge of Windows infrastructure architecture and concepts.

* Knowledge data center management and process.

* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with global stakeholders with varied expertise and technical strength.

* Understand technical operations and quickly learn new technologies and solutions to manage their implementation.

* Maintain momentum on all projects and follow every detail through to completion.

* Use best judgment to escalate status and inform as necessary, to seek guidance or intervention.

* Collaborate with a large team focused on 24x365 infrastructure operations with global scope.

* Understand the importance of process and procedure and advocate for adherence.
