Job Description

We are looking for an energetic, self-starter whom has a strong desire to join our Manufacturing New Product Introduction Project Management Team (MFG NPI PM). The MFG NPI PM for Varian's Oncology business is responsible for leading the technology transition process from engineering to manufacturing as part of NPI. They drive inputs into the engineering design process and ensure the completion of all manufacturing deliverables for the transition and release of the new product. An individual in this role will be supporting 2-3 development (hardware and software) projects at a time, completing 4-6 projects a year. S/he will regularly interact with and support managers and individual contributors from the broader organization include members of; Design and Development, Program Management Office, Product Support Engineering, Commodities Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Software Quality Engineering, Production, and Regulatory teams.

The individual filling this role will spend the majority of their time managing the MFG transition and release of product design changes to Varian's External Beam radiation therapy devices and third party products. These projects will be primarily HW and Systems SW focused releases that have a direct impact on the production of Linacs in our Palo Alto facility but the role will require strong coordination of activities with Varian's other locations in the UK and Switzerland.

The Manufacturing NPI Project Manager is a critical part of the team driving the development and release of advanced cancer treatment technology that helps to save lives. The culture throughout Varian is focused on this goal. This position is best suited to individuals early in their career who want to move into a project management role in the medical device industry. This role offers broad exposure to the business and serves as a great starting point in Varian for promotion to Engineering, PMO, or Product Management. This is a matrix role crossing functional lines and success is dependent on influence and determination in an ambiguous environment, leadership strength bridging gaps in the organization, and effective stakeholder and resource management.

Objectives of the role

* Facilitate the ongoing utilization and evolution of the MFG NPI team

* Work with management and key stakeholders on technology transition objectives

* Develop project specific stakeholder analysis to ensure sponsorship of project goals

* Create project communication strategies to facilitate information sharing at all levels.

* Provide metric visibility to stakeholders related to project deliverables and overall efforts to improve MFG NPI execution.

* Establish partnerships with stakeholders to build support, secure resource allocations, and ensure alignment for project deliverables and schedule commitments. For each project, develop a project plan. Identify risks to project success & create mitigation plans

* Articulate the major requirements of a MFG product transition, identifying primary tracks of work across all MFG sites for each program.

* Quickly gain a strong understanding of Varian's PLC, product release processes, requirements, and manufacturing requirements, and production processes

* Build an understanding for Varian's engineering change process so you can successfully facilitate projects, guiding EC authors and contributors to meet committed time lines for engineer release.

* For each project, facilitate discussions on critical design inputs from MFG as part of the product development effort. Leverage manufacturing principles (e.g., DFx) and internal complaint requests as a basis for enhancing the MFG requirements/deliverables.

* Ensure product/process quality by adhering to Varian's Quality initiatives, PLC and regulatory standards. Work to drive new process adoption and to prevent premature product release.

Job Requirements

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge and Education:

* BA/BS in engineering or sciences discipline; and 2-4 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment.

* 2 years demonstrated experience in a Project Management

* Demonstrated success in execution of complex, cross-disciplinary projects, ideally involving NPI

* Proven experience managing multiple assignments/projects simultaneously with a track record of quality delivery and successful completion

* Experience working with manufacturing of medical devices, or complex $200K+ capex instrumentation

* Comfortable using project management tools and methodologies

* Possesses high level of accountability and ownership; and is able to work with minimal supervision and guidance

* Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

* Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.

Preferred experience

* Experience in New Product introduction and/or technology transition

* Experience in low volume high complexity production environment
