The Data Center Operations Command Center is responsible for 24x7 monitoring of the technology systems used across T. Rowe Price. Timely identification and resolution of alarm conditions enables T. Rowe Price to conduct business and meet service levels. The Operations Technician is a vital role within the Command Center. The Operations Technician is focused on identifying alarm conditions, recording the occurrence, and escalating to a Senior Operations Technician or Operations Triage Specialist for resolution. In addition to monitoring alarms, the Operations Technician also coordinates requests and assigns the request to a Senior Operations Technician or Operations Triage Specialist. The Operations Technician works from established practices and documented procedures.


* Identifies alarm conditions using a variety of monitoring tools including Autosys, CA7, Data Center Expert, Mainframe Consoles, NetBackup, Outlook email, Servergraph, Tivoli Storage Manager, and TMON. Upon occurrence of an alarm condition, the Operations Technician creates an incident ticket and assigns to a Senior Operations Technician or Operations Triage Specialist for resolution.

* Coordination of command center requests. Upon receipt of a request through email, phone call, or system generated ticket the Operations Technician creates a request ticket and assigns to a Senior Operations Technician or Operations Triage Specialist to complete. The Operations Technician ensures all information needed for processing the request is input in the ticket and follows up with the requestor when information is missing or not clear.

* Maintains physical security of the computer systems and the data center. Escorts repair and temporary personnel to and from the data center, ensures all visitors sign in and out on the logbook. Reports any suspicious activity to security and the manager on duty. Ensures that all doors are kept closed, does not allow anyone to enter our critical areas without having the proper access badge.

* Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require updating. Works with shift manager to implement changes.



* Has basic understanding of alarm layout of a technology center

* Knowledge of data center equipment

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* Problem solving skills

* Works well with others

* Ability to work varying hours and shifts

* Ability to handle high pressure situations

* Ability to effectively multi-task and keep up within a fast-paced environment

* Experience using technology monitoring software packages and ticketing systems


* College degree in information systems or business administration preferred

* 2 years of data center experience preferred
