Description of Work

This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, removing and repairing electronic devices including, but not limited to, fareboxes, destination signs, logic and digital equipment, video monitors, video recorders, 2-way radios, and digital circuitry.

Duties and Responsibilities

Employees performing this job function may perform some or all of these duties. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

Completes scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance on all electronic systems, subassemblies and control devices.

Inspects, diagnoses, removes and repairs electronic systems, equipment and devices.

Records periodic electrical testing, and recommends modification or replacement of equipment that fails to meet acceptable operational standards.

Diagnoses the cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventive or corrective maintenance.

Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to test and repair operational electrical and electrical controlled equipment and circuitry.

Adjusts, calibrates, aligns and modifies circuitry and components, and records effects on unit performance.

Analyzes and interprets test data.

Develops charts, graphs and schematics to describe and illustrate system’s operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications and functional limitations for consideration by management in broader determinations affecting system design.

Uses testing equipment (meters, oscilloscopes, test bench and mock-up).

Executes field repairs on all electronic systems, subassemblies and control devices including connector and harness manufacture and repair.

Works with lower-grade technicians on difficult or unusual problems.

Ensures operator defects are completed on all electrical equipment on schedule.

Sets up standard test apparatus or devices, test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental and live test to evaluate performance and reliability of production models.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of electronics to inspect, diagnose, remove and repair equipment and systems.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Skills in leadership.

Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work as a team player.

Ability to drive buses, trucks, non-revenue vehicles and equipment into the shop, line & yard.

Ability to physically bend, stoop, walk, kneel, stretch and lift fifty (50) pounds.

Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.

Ability to understand and operate special test equipment.

Ability to work in open bays, inside buses and inside test and repair room.

Ability to work with commercial cleaners and toxic materials.

Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

Ability to provide own advanced tools.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, the public, coworkers, and those doing business with LYNX.

Must possess, or obtain and maintain a current Florida CDL license or permit, Class B with a passenger endorsement and airbrakes.

Ability to learn new skills and take initiative.

Employees must be able to communicate in English on the work site.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED plus four (4) years of experience in the electronic repair field plus two (2) years of technical school. Electronic Technician Degree helpful. Previous experience repairing and troubleshooting problems and programming on GFI Fareboxes, Digital Recorders DR-600, Seon video systems and TwinVision Destination signs desired. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to effectively perform the functions of this position may be considered.

This position is part of a bargaining unit.

Pay Rate: $21.11 per hour per Collective Bargaining Agreement
