Instructional Specialist

Undergraduate Research at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for the position of instructional specialist. This position is a non-tenure earning faculty position reporting to the director of Undergraduate Research within a newly formed unit, iACE (Integrative Academic Connections & Engagement). Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Expand curriculum to introduce students to research via a variety of instructional formats;

* Serve as instructor for several introduction to research courses each semester (open to all disciplines);

* Recruit and select students for the courses;

* Create and implement assessment for these courses;

* Actively engage and support students who complete the introduction course as they move into research;

* Assist students utilizing Federal Work Study and/or academic credit as they engage in undergraduate research;

* Offer workshops and trainings for Undergraduate Research and iACE to students and faculty;

* Serve as part of the leadership team of the office, collaborating to plan events, programs, and activities in line with the office and university mission.

About Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Research was founded in 2007 at UCF. The team works to foster a campus-wide culture of undergraduate research and creative scholarship among students and faculty. Undergraduate Research centralizes both curriculum-based and faculty mentored research, helping students and faculty find resources and integrate student learning. As students become scholars, Undergraduate Research provides a variety of enrichment opportunities for students to grow and become professionals in their discipline.

Undergraduate Research is part of iACE – Integrative Academic Connections & Engagement, a new unit which serves as the connecting place for the university's High-Impact Practices. iACE will combine Undergraduate Research, Advanced Academic Programs, Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising, and EXCEL under one structure.

Position Minimum Qualifications

* An earned master's degree from an accredited institution.

* Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or mentoring.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively, efficiently, and equitably with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in a collegial environment.

* Ability to manage concurrent projects, responsibilities, and deadlines effectively.


* Experience in instructional design.

* Experience in undergraduate research as a mentor and/or mentee.

* Academic experience in presenting and/or publishing research.

* Experience working in or collaborating with an undergraduate research or academic engagement unit.
