Senior Traffic Engineer (or similar experience as an Electrical Engineer) is responsible for performing OR developing, managing, and reviewing traffic/electrical engineering aspects of infrastructure improvement projects involving Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, ramp metering, and a variety of lighting applications. You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to lead the preparation of engineering plans, power distribution calculations, lighting design (illuminance) calculations, fiber optic distribution, technical specifications, and construction estimates and schedules. You will be supported by a successful management team and team of designers to advance your technical and management skills.

•Office based managing the preparation of engineering designs for highway traffic signal systems, lighting systems, security systems, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (CMS, CCTV, TMS, EMS, WIM, VDS, Piezo, and Census Station systems)
•Design and/or calculate voltage drop and illuminance calculations; communication fiber diagrams; power distribution diagrams; utility service coordination; and protective relaying, key interlocking, and grounding calculations
•Responsible for all aspects of electrical system designs, task budget expenditures, task schedules
•Work directly with project leadership staff to scope projects and to identify and mitigate potential constructability or other design issues
•Occasional field visits to project sites to investigate and photograph existing site conditions
•Prepare final electrical design plans for state and local highway communication systems, CCTV, ramp metering, lighting and traffic signals
•Prepare technical proposals
•Meet with client representatives on projects

•Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required
•Holder of a Professional Engineer’s (PE) license from the state of California is required
•10 or more years of progressive traffic electrical design, lighting design, ITS design experience is required
•Additional non-lighting electrical engineering experience is preferred
•Working knowledge of codes and standards such as NEC, IEEE, electrical safety code, IES, and AASHTO lighting standards is required
•Working knowledge of Caltrans standards and specifications, TEES (Transportation Electrical Equipment Specifications), Signal and Lighting Guidelines, Fiber Optic System Design Guide, Roadside Design Guide, Ramp Metering Design Manual, Signal Design Manual, CA MUTCD, HDM (Highway Design Manual) and PPM (Plans Preparation Manual) is required
•Organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize competing project obligations, and to interface with multiple technical disciplines is required
•Working knowledge of MicroStation and lighting design software is required
•Excellent English language skills, written and verbal is required
